Agreed! I'd go so far as to say that there could be a market for non-RGB ones too, if the price was right. Memory is darn expensive, but empty slots are just sad.

(Have fully populated slots, paid too much, regret it, and don't have a real need for 8 dimms of whatever ridiculous amount is clipped in there)

I would argue that it also keeps any potential dust out of the unused memory slots.

You're going to get some divided opinions here! Mainly bling versus non-bling.

more or less what I have done popping my RAM under of these,

    https://www.scan.co.uk/products/cor...ooler-dual-50mm-ball-bearing-fans-corsair-lin

No requirement for RGB DIMMs and it at least it has a function in an overclocked system.( though I have trident Z RGB under it, just turned out that way  )

Those dummies are certainly useful for keeping dust out of slots though.

I hereby propose a counterpoint article: "Why everyone needs non-windowed cases."

Not an RGB fan then, same here, none of the software for the RGB bits I have is installed, but the Window has been useful, as a tweaker, each BIOS update on TR seems to stuff my RAM and require retuning, I can see status LEDs and water levels, can give early warning, handy.

Of course if Ryzen was anygood at this memory stuff out the box, I wouldn't be clinging on to the hope that the next BIOS update might actually get me the 3600 my RAM was rated for and probably never need to do the tweaky, tuney crashfest loops.

That's a lot of words to talk about RGB and empty DIMM slots...

Sorry I know people think this is a good idea but I think it's just stupid!

    What's next "Dummy GPU's"

I already struggle to buy parts for my pc when I am looking for stuff because I don't want any RGB at all in my system or Tempered Glass, but trying to find stuff without it is either stupidly difficult because nearly everything has it or doesn't allow you to fully turn it off or it's expensive because it's old items that are not made anymore.

Thankfully fan's for me when I buy new ones will not be an issue because the EK Vardar fans don't have RGB, and when I buy a new case hopefully I will be able to get hold of a Caselabs case or I will just buy the Corsair 900D or find somewhere selling a NZXT Switch 810, 2 of the best cases I have ever owned and both don't have RGB or Tempered Glass! or even better get my brother to make one for me since he can get the metal and has all the tools he would need to make it for me.

Not wanting to be that guy as RGB may look nice but it seems these companies time would be better spent fixing the security holes in their software.

I can understand the argument that dummy DIMMs keep dust out. So do PCIe covers.

I personally haven't been majorly affected by dusty slots...

@Gareth Halfacree -Case windows were for watching the fires. Now they are for watching the leaks... and fires.

" forced to make the often-pointless move to 32GB" -It's nerd Viagra. I'd rather have an insane amount of ram than more flashy lights.

Or how about: "Why 'heatsinks' on DIMMs serve no utility other than to raise BoM cost".
