It’ll destroy Intel, yes. Especially if the rumored pricing is close to true.

I can’t wait to get my hands on a new CPU and board. :D

Here's to hoping it'll make Intel get their prices on -KF parts right.

Or just pick up a decent AMD chip if it's priced well and performs well :p

But.... but... Intel gets a few FPS more! Can't have less performance, even if it's twice the price! ;)

I think HEDT platforms will just cease to exist. They are already super niche, having an overlap (and all the confusion that comes with it) between "HEDT" and "HEMS" (high-end main-stream?), will only make them an even harder sell.

I doubt there is confusion between mainstream (LEDT?) and HEDT as there is proper separation via different sockets and abilities, well perhaps a bit with Intels HEDT as you can get restricted lane chips in fancy socket but It would be good to loose the separation between HEDT and LEDT, that would probably push up the prices of normal gear to accommodate extra bandwidth requirements as you would need higher quality motherboards.

Bandwidth requirements in a system is only ever going one way, UP.

So unless Ryzen 3xxx adds more to LEDT on that score, extra cores won't necessarily lead to a reason for dropping HEDT, particularly as mores cores will typically require more bandwidth.

Current LEDT platforms are completely limited by PCIe lanes also, bits of board going dark etc as you plug more things in, fairly useless really, wasn't so bad when you could add PLX switches to LEDT boards but AVAGOs ramping of the pricing killed that and of course NVMe drives want actual bandwidth more than just a physical connection.

I get your point. But, imho, AMD has to pull off something amazing to beat Intel on IPC. And even then they'll have to (almost) match Intel for clock speeds. Also, they then have to match or lowball Intel's prices.

I care about gaming and fps. I don't multitask excessively. What would I need a 16c/32t Ryzen CPU for? I can get close to peak fps (for sane money) for 250 Euros with a 9600K. More money buys me an 2700X and less fps. Yes, I know mainboards for AMD are a bit cheaper. And you don't need to buy a cooler. But I'd have to buy one, don't I? To match Intel's pure grunt I'd have to overclock any AMD chip. Wouldn't wanna do that on their stock coolers.

I won't ever defend Intel's pricing or behaviour or lack of proper, forward-thinking R&D, but let's not pretend the red side has fuply caught up yet in terms of gaming performance.

Well Lisa is currently mid talk at CES. Teasing the desktop talk.

Edit: just dropping Radeon VII (Vega 2 7nm). Looks like 2080 performance w/o rays (?). Hm... no pricing... concerning...

$700 no rays, nope. Hope they pull it back with Zen2.

Faster than 9900K at 30% slower clocks in R15... you have a massive winner! Oh my God. I cannot wait to get one.

I may of missed this, I just knew it was "sample clocks" not final clocks achieved.

They said less power. Didn't hear about the clocks being lower.

I might have misheard, then. I was listening at work in a noisy warehouse through the speakers on my phone. Sorry! :D

I misheard quite a few things, I could swear she said Poopysoft when introducing the Ubisoft guy.
