I moved to the UK late 2013 with my girlfriend and we were on a tight budget. I bought an ASUS VE247H in Canada on sale and it works, but it is not very good. Even my LG 42LB5500 which I picked up a year later for £120 gives produces better colour. Even reading editing my thesis is not very enjoyable. With 4k gaining in popularity, I'm hoping 1440p is dropping in value. I would like to upgrade to a 27" 1440p monitor. I'm wondering if I can afford to upgrade before I start working and I'm more than happy to go used. I figure I can sell my 24" locally for around £50. What would I need to spend to get a decent all-around monitor for writing/video content and gaming (non-competitive), I saw a lovely monitor in the marketplace but I won't be able to afford it until I start working. Freesync would be nice, a refresh rate over 60fps and much better image quality (colour).
I've seen quiet a few reviews lately for 1440p 27" ips screens for a decent price, which makes me want to puke because I paid about £500-£600 for my Asus 27" just a few years ago. Anyway I think they can be picked up for around the £250 mark brand new, second hand your looking at £100=£150 I reckon.
Yeah I think my IPS was about 300, bit less now I think. Love it. Will love it even more if the freesync works with gsync. There's alot out there. Could be a good idea to post a wanted thread with a budget you're happy with. Edit: with regards to freesync it's worth checking the range (often easier said than done). IIRC mine is quite tight at 48-70, others can be more generous.
That's one of the reasons I've stuck with AMD, for my next monitor which won't be a gsync gaming monitor.
I doubt it'll be too long till we hear which freesync monitors work well with the new gsync enabling drivers (beyond the fully nvidia certified ones that is). Mind you, if you've got AMD there's no worries anyway.
I have this on the market place https://forums.bit-tech.net/index.php?threads/asus-mg279q-27-144hz-1440p-ips-freesync.356111/ Im sure if you sweet talk me i could move a little on price. Only caveat though is you'd have to collect unless you live near me.
Don't worry. I bought my Dell U2711 back in 2010 (when it first came out, back then, it was the only 1440p monitor) with my first paycheck for £800. Luckily it is still going strong and still a pleasure to use. In my mind, that's less than £100 a year, well worth it. (ah... I remember the good old days without financial dependents. Just buy whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted, and not feel guilty that the money could have bought so many toys for my son. Can also game without disruption)
I bought one of those too .. It was an expensive purchase for sure. But what a lovely bit of kit. If it wasnt for CSGO i would still have it.
A bit bigger but a good price https://www.scan.co.uk/products/315...ps-75hz-5ms-107b-colours-tilt-dp-hdmi-dvi-d-v
