Am i the only one who keeps noticing similarities between the rhetoric around guns in America and Brexit?

Things like it's not Brexit that's causing business to leave it's the uncertainty, and it's not Brexit that's bad it's that a bad person is in control. They both sound similar to the idiom of guns don't kill people, people kill people, and the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.

It seems like some sort of denial or refusal to accept that Guns/Brexit maybe the root cause of the problem, if only we had more guns and/or a harder Brexit everything would be fine.

    That or flat earthers.

Yeah the earth looks flat where you are but see the bigger picture and look at the facts and it's plain to see it's not.

If you look at who's pushing/funding the NRA, the Leave.eu ampaign, Trump and whatnot, you'll probably find a good amount of overlap.

More Brexit dividend: Brexit-hit Spanish nurses deepen NHS staffing crisis.

    EDIT: another link here.

For some it was a couple of weeks ago. the stuff is already on its way to/from asia with no concrete idea of what'll happen when it arrives at its destination.

Yeah many things get pushed through in the background.

However, on quick glance is this not a good bill? Stopping PFIs, excluding the NHS from International TAs and repealing charges based on immigration status?

Don't know much about this bill, but I am noticing a lot of articles lately in health policy mags about the future affordability and sustainability of the NHS.

And that's exactly what made me suspicious. It seems too sensible for a government that's also pushing Brexit through...at first glance

    I know what you mean.

There must be some changes due somewhere that means all funding comes from the sale of every family's first born or something.

In the past the attitude of bury it now, nobody will notice has been well accepted amongst whoever has been in power.

Things like that always get my hackles up, IME ensuring sustainability is code for removing the budget of.

Not sure why the demand on the NHS isn't celebrated and a reason for more tax money - it's helped us live longer. Success. Invest more money then.

'affordability and sustainability' aka 'what can we use to justify budget cuts?'

All the evidence says that it is the most efficient way of delivering health care, and that affordable health care boosts the nation's GDP (healthy people are productive people), but ideologically hard-right Tories are simply against it. Remember: there is no scientific evidence for Austerity either.

    Very true.

In UK politics there seems to be no room for commonsense nor facts.

Likewise you'd think Conservatives would be proud of the NHS given what labour created was, iirc, a slight modification of a Tory proposal [which in turn was based on a Liberal white paper].

...But the European Convention on Human Rights and the Single Market were Tory ideas and they seem equally intent on setting fire to those too.

I know David Davis is more than a bit stupid but did the 15% fall in the value of sterling after the vote teach him nothing? He's now asking if a further 20% drop is this such a bad thing.

If the 15% fall didn't make UK exports more competitive what on earth makes him believe a 20% is going to be any different, all it's going to do is make things we buy 20% more expensive, it means my planned end of year upgrade is going to cost me £300+ more.

It does make it cheaper for Russian Oligarchs to launder their money through property acquisitions in London, so all good in the eye of Tories:naughty:

Meanwhile the ferry company that has no ferries and no port to operate from turns out to never have had any backers. Grayling managing to achieve fractal levels of fail.

Oh, and the government now admits it won't have those bigly 40 trade deals ready to roll over in time for Brexit day. Interestingly it mentions that Japan doesn't want to roll over any deal at all, but start negotiations with the UK from scratch.

    As Redflames said...
Oh, and after Boris said "**** business", business is now saying "**** government".

Oh, and remember when I said (to nobody's surprise here) that Boris Johnson is a sociopath? Well, he is a sociopath.
