    May:
"How can I ensure the support of MPs in MV3?"

Oh I know, get on TV and say:
"The House of Commons is a bag of d*cks who refuse to back my deal"

I do wonder whether she has a checklist of things to do, and a checklist of things not to do, but only ever remembers the not to do list.

Seriously, I cannot fathom how she could make any more of a mess of this apart from walking into the stage, shitting herself, and rolling around in it while screaming about how stupid everyone is.

Needs to win the support of MPs to get her deal voted through --> blames MPs for everything in a public speech.

Her incisive strategic thinking and deep human insight never ceases to impress.

    EDIT: ninja'd by Anfield! :D

The government position is to respect the result of the referendum. Article 50 will not be revoked.

...will be in the inevitable response/outcome to that petition.

    Her comeback speech after it:

"Who would you have as a replacement: Jeremy runs away with no plan Corbyn, Boris spaffed up the wall Johnson or Jacob ghosts are haunted by him Rees-Mogg?"

edit: IMO the biggest fault falls not on May but on David Cameron. He is the one everyone should be crucifying.

Give it a year, and people may just be doing that. If they're not eating him instead.

    Yes and no.

The thing with May is as follows:

May set up various red lines (no FOM, no ECJ etc) while simultaneously ruling out options like Canada style FTA / EFTA / EEA as supposedly not close enough to the EU and also promising an open border between NI / ROI.

Obviously her red lines where never compatible with her promises, but she dragged her feet until the government was basically falling apart, so she came up with her Chequers proposal that was so unpopular that it triggered multiple resignations close to her.

Yet she refused to take the hint and took her Chequers proposal, her promises and her red lines to the EU to start negotiations in earnest, the WA she eventually brought back was obviously some random fudge between her grossly unpopular Chequers proposal and EU rules (from which we are supposed to be leaving), so there should have been zero surprise that the WA was going to suffer the biggest defeat in the history of modern UK politics.

But rather than face up to that inevitability she dragged her feet and refused to put the bloody WA up for a vote until January this year and when she eventually relented the inevitable defeat happened.

Then she tried again with some lipstick on her pig, but it was obviously defeated again.

And all throughout the process she has never once tried to build a cross party consensus or considered alternative strategies and instead chose to run down the clock to bully parliament into panic signing her WA.

So in short: She does indeed deserve a large portion of the blame.

Of course Cameron ain't blameless either, referendum with no plan and then running away ain't exactly fine form for a leader (to put it extremely mildly)

    What @Anfield said...

Who was responsible for controlling immigration prior to the ref, an oft-cited contributor to people voting for Brexit - May

Who fired A50 without a plan - May
Who decided to piss away 6 weeks of a hard 104 week deadline on a General Election - May
Who cocked up said election campaign so spectacularly they went backwards in terms of seats - May
Who got into bed with the bible-humping lunatics that are the DUP, paying over £1bn for the privilege - May
Who set the 'red lines', specifically the ending of freedom of movement at all costs - May
Who then refused to compromise on any of those demands when it became clear they weren't deliverable - May

Who went and actively pissed off the very group of people she needs on side to get her deal passed - May

TL-DR virtually all of the current catastrofuck can be blamed, directed or indirectly, on May.

It's true her immediate competition is no better. Maybe they should elect an animal as party leader. A nice golden retriever would be a distinct improvement. Probably more politically able, too.

She's never accepted responsibility for anything else, why would she start there?

May is a useless meat sack who needs to go and sit in a cave for the rest of it's existence.

So to summarise the last few days: May said if her deal gets approved she'll request a short extension and if it doesn't a longer one, the speaker ruled out voting on the same deal, May told the EU to offer a short extension and she'll somehow get MPs to approve her deal, failing that the EU will hold a last minute meeting where they'll likely approve a longer extension.

So basically nothing has changed...Nothing has changed.

No surprise, May blaming everyone else has been seen dangerous in a time where people get regular death threats.

Meanwhile others playing 'what the taxi driver said' card. :wallbash:

I do wonder, if anything happens - attempted or successful - whether she will accept any responsibility for being a reckless dumbass.

I suspect I know the answer (No, not now, not ever), but still.

Things happen in a sequence, if it were not for Cameron being a spineless coward we would not be in this current situation.
He was so spineless when confronted with UKIP rising in power that he created a referendum, then proceeded to f*** that up spectacularly. He also promised that if leave won he would trigger A50 the very next day... we all know what happened.

May is not without sin, but when you have to choose a new PM while in a pressure cooker you will make real bad choices. Also every other "better" choice looked at the prospect of leaving and said "F this". You were left with people that thought: "this can't be that hard, can it?" and people that just wanted to be called a PM once in their lifetime.
Even the clowns (you know who i'm talking about) were thumping their chest and declaring that the day of the referendum would be their independence day and that they would lead the way to the future... and then when leave won, no celebrations, no positive reactions, just a press conference and then lying low or asking or citizenship in a EU country.

Cameron could have been something other than a spineless coward and pull the handbrake, say that the referendum was non binding and it did not have a significant majority, continue ruling and point at the leave campaign lack of celebration and plans for brexit as a reason to not jump of a cliff.

IMHO this all falls square on the lap of the tory party, then on Cameron and then on May.
She is still a very very very bad PM.

As for May controlling immigration... she had her higher ups who had the responsibility of twisting her ear and demanding that she do her work, IDK maybe the PM at the time could have done something about it... or the party in power.

I think that's one thing we can say for certain about Brexit, that will never happen.

On a tangent, I've heard Henry Newman speak several times recently on TV - why does he sound almost exactly like Michael Gove? I mean it's almost clone like, it's most disturbing.

Coincidence? Just checked the Revoke Article 50 petition (was at >600k so far) and if you try to sign it you get a '502 Bad Gateway'.
