So sorry to hear that, it is such a painful blow. We went through it twice, once before each of our children was born.
Big hugs to you other half, as it is so tough, with an emotional roller coaster thrown in to add to the situation.

Kid of very close friends of the family was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer (thymus), mere weeks after his mum was declared cancer-free. We only just had them over for a birthday party last Sunday and they deliberately didn't mention it because they didn't want to ruin the mood - they're such nice people.

    He's 17

Minor work gripe, work deployed an SQL client out, thats fine. They also deployed a new oracle client too, again fine.
The SQL app is hard coded for 32bit, bit of a headache but symbolic links Cheesecake. The Oracle client though is 64bit with no 32bit runtimes. That is a bit of a problem.

How the hell did this managed to go through testing and get signed off as working?!

Why is it the nice people get hit with all the crap?

I hope he makes it two for two cancer-free in the family and as soon as possible.

    Condolences Warren. Same, Pliqu.

You'll generally find that is how it goes. My mother didn't deserve one of the awful things that have happened to her, yet I know people who deserved it all with a cherry on top and got none of it.

Maybe it's some sort of test? IDK. Either way it's cruel :(

My condolences to all of you. Feels bad to say that, given there are so many I have to say it to.

No such thing, but then, on time is late in my book.
You've just made sure you've given yourself enough time to peruse the frame selection they have, and if they were worth their salt they'd do the eye pressure test and eye photography when you turned up so your peepers have time to recover before being subjected to the eye test itself

The eye pressure thing is horrid. What happened to the old "puff of air" test? Having someone actually pushing your eyeball isn't much fun, even with the anaesthetic drops.

Wut? :eeek: My optician used the puff of air gizmo at my last test (last summer).

Eye pressure test? Had an eye test a couple of weeks ago and they did the photo stuff, and I used a machine rather than a board for the colours/letters, with a machine instead of manually changing lenses etc which was new to me.

Don't remember ever having an eye pressure test? Where did you go?

I've had the eye pressure test at every single eye test I've had in the last twenty years, I think. Up until a year or two back it was always the puff of air version but more recently it's been the version where they place a small prism against the surface of your eye and push slightly, which is why they give you anaesthetic drops beforehand.

That's at both the opticians and the Eye Hospital (which I had the misfortune of visiting a few times earlier this year).

Lol she tried to upsell me to £300. Are they mad?

Any way, turns out my eyes are indeed worse and I now need two pairs. One for PC and reading and others for distance.

Will have to buy sunglasses when I have some cash. At least my eyes won't hurt like buggery now. Just don't leave it for 5 years, kids. All my fault haha
