My current monitor is an ASUS VE247H 24" that I bought in Canada for £90. I'm starting to do more freelance work at home and I would like to upgrade to something bigger, nicer and easier on my eyes. I think that a 27" 1440p would be an ideal size and resolutions. Freesync would be nice as I have an rx480. I play most games on my sofa with a controller so I don't need a "gaming" monitor. A USB hub would be nice for a webcam but not a deal breaker. If I was going new, the Dell S2719DGF for £291 and S2719DM for £307 plus whatever student discount I can use look like reasonable options thought I would be happy to go second hand to save some dosh. Is it a good time to upgrade or should I wait a bit longer?
DEll had a sale about 2 days ago with some actually good discounts and you could still get the student discount on top. They do them every few months. If you want a Dell (and I would understand why) its worthwaiting and checking.
Yes, I frequently find good deals on the Dell site. Sometimes better deal on Amazon but not always. I don't really follow monitor tech though so I don't know there are better options.
I agree that a Dell with a decent student discount is the answer. Otherwise, here are some recent threads debating the same question... https://forums.bit-tech.net/index.php?threads/recommend-me-a-monitor.358973/ https://forums.bit-tech.net/index.php?threads/£500-32-monitor-advice.358874/ https://forums.bit-tech.net/index.php?threads/27-resolution.359258/ Edit: There is also a current student deal (until 30th April) of 10% off monitors for students... https://www.dell.com/learn/uk/en/uk...&acd=2397248260629860&VEN3=413504876436800144
Yes, I'm aware of the student discount. Typically 10% off monitors. I'm considering if it is worth it to go used or if I should look for a big discount on a new display. The Dell Ultrasharp U2719D on Amazon Prime for £380 is a good deal, but I'm not sure i want to spend that much.
@Baz is price checking a Dell U2715U here: https://forums.bit-tech.net/index.php?threads/misc-items.359780/
These guys used to get a lot of love on these forums: https://www.nrgit.biz/ and they used to do a bit-tech forum user discount. Think they may still do. Worth a look, often some great deals there and you get a warranty too.
I'm sure it was our Anthony who once said (or someone writing for Custom PC) Never ever cheap out on a monitor. It is how we spend our time interacting with our beloved PC. Ne'er a truer word spoken IMO. The monitor is everything. Everything we do we do through that thing. Spend every penny you can afford to spend. Do it once etc. Same thing goes for chairs for me also. I want to enjoy my time at my PC, not end up being crippled by it.
I agree, which is why I'm looking to upgrade from my budget display. I did a bit of reading that said dell monitors don't change much, even if you compare models several years apart. It's also true that there is no perfect model so it is important to find something that matches your needs.
What are some good forums for monitor advice, preferable ones that focus on the UK market. While I could pay £300-400 on a Dell ultrasharp it is really ideal as I am not involved in content productions (photo/video). Must: 27-28" 2k Wants: IPS 75Hz Freesync speakers Adjustable hight I think I would be better off in the £200-300 range. ASUS VZ27AQ 27 Acer Nitro VG270U AOPEN 27ML1U (Scan exclusive) Dell S2719DM £300 at NRGIT, 60Hz I have only found 3 monitors that are 27" 1440p IPS 75Hz.
If only the forum would let me register. I've been trying for a few days but it won't let me. The Verification code was not the same as the image presented on screen, please go back, refresh (hit F5 on most browsers) and try again.
