...... nearly. Just toying with ideas before I decide if it's worth pulling some money together in the new year. Budget: £500 - £750 Main uses of intended build: Pew pew gaming, almost 100% FPS Parts required: Mobo CPU RAM SSD OS PSU Cooling Previous build information (list details of parts): Will be recycling; Case, a MESH ATX Midi Tower(Wave) Blueray player Lightscribe DVD Mouse Keyboard Monitor GPU (Sapphire Radeon HD 5770 Vapor-X 1GB GDDR5 PCIe) Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy 4 Sound Card Monitor resolution: A stonking eye watering 1027 x 768, although probably upping to 1600 x 1200 a tad later Storage requirements: Going to need a SSD for OS and programmes etc, will also need a drive for docs etc. will you be overclocking: yes/no (delete as required) Nope Any motherboard requirements (no. of USB, Xfire/SLI, fan headers): Erm...... Extra information about desired system: Not looking for bleeding edge (as you can tell from monitor res) but looking to future proof for a good couple of years.. last game i bought was MW2 but it played the origianl Crysis at an acceptable level So anything worth doing within my budget? I appreciate the GPU is a tad long in the tooth but it works for now, I'm leaning towards Win 7 over Win 8
A new monitor would be top of my list of buys in truth. Intel Core i5 4670K Combo scan today only £444 (http://www.scan.co.uk/todayonly/index.aspx#3) includes hdd psu ram cpu cooler mobo + cpu add on your windows 7 and a ssd ( can get refurbed 128gb vertex 3s for £64 ) and your at about £600 job done. Use the rest of your budget to get a monitor as it will make such a difference to your actual user experience.
That's 2 recommendations for 500W PSU's now, back in the day they'd be seen a a tad weedy, has power consumption been reduced to make 500 Watters viable?
Yes. And the PSUs are better and more efficient now. Most are single rail too, with a half decent amount of amps
I'd suggest nothing is the better option. Watch out or people will be trying to force those horrible, new internal combustion engines on you.
They can try but I've got about 6 laying around the place anyway might have to get rid of some though to increase my CRT stockpile
Well I did say nearly..... ....and the time is now, so with a budget if £1k hit me with your suggestions for a fps shooter rig. Parts required: Mobo CPU RAM SSD OS PSU Cooling Previous build information (list details of parts): Will be recycling; Case, a MESH ATX Midi Tower(Wave) Blueray player Lightscribe DVD Mouse Moitor It'd be super cool if we could ignore my crt preference, it's not by choice, thems the cards I've been dealt so that's the hand I'm playing. Ta.
Nearly. 6. Years. Later?!! Holy moly. What's the deal with the monitor btw? To run that you don't need to spend £1k.
I can't do flat screens they send one of my eyes wonky, it's either the polerising filter or the low freqs, either way I've mostly given up on them for computer use.
Crt, VGA, 1024 X whatever @ 85hz. I don't / can't do flat screen monitors, I've been trying them for the past 13 odd years, I've given up looking, it ain't happening.
Thoughts? ImI seeing concerns with RAM & Ryzen's, is that going to be a problem Ok, so maybe a tad OTT, but I'm going for future proofing
