It's the fruit-named company... and it's not Blackberry or Orange...

Pairs nicely with the $6k entry level grater with its stingy af 256GB SSD and a rebadged 3yr old GPU.

...wonder if they'll wait another 6 years before updating the hardware in this one.

Someone will spec that storage with the 8 core Xeon and 1.5TB RAM, that way they could cache their entire HDD several times over into the cache.

It's 2019, literally IMPOSSIBLE to buy standard definition TV's, 4K is on the horizon and yet we still haven't accepted even 720p as the new "standard" definition...

I remember angrily ranting to a mate in 2013/14 that SD broadcasts are archaic and need to be phased out - have we made ANY progress since then??

IMO the macolytes are over the moon with it partly because expectations were so low going in... I think a lot of them were expecting another iBin.

I don't think it's sunk in that they've been had... again...

WT actual F? $12k for their lowest spec workstation? :jawdrop:
Apart from the relatively mediocre specs at the bottom end, who are they trying to kid with their monitor mount prices? Okay, so it'll be over-engineered to heck and back, but that still doesn't justify the cost - I used to sell Vogel mounts, which were fairly expensive, but nowhere near those prices.

Still, the Mac fanboys will lap it up, just because it has the Apple logo on it :wallbash:

There are 2 kinds that'll buy this imo -

Macolytes with more money than brains... [you could argue that accounts for most of them but... you get what i mean...]
Those tied to macOS for work reasons and who were probably clinging on to their old pre trash can mac pro for dear life... [they'll almost certainly also be buying a more tricked out offering]...

Spotted this ad on farcebook earlier

So I googled this product - I'm not gonna give them the satisfaction of an ad click - and came up with this link: https://www.weasz.com/products/mini-pocket-laptop. Let's run down the specs, shall we?
    • Core M3-8100Y
    • 8GB RAM
    • 256GB PCIe SSD
    • 1920*1200 7" screen
    • 6.5Ah battery
And the price they're asking for this little machine? A mere £46.95 - plus shipping & handling, presumably. Oh yeah, just before we move on, check out the GPU specs in the advert - 300GHz, wowee that's faster than my graphics card!

What other similar products are on the market I wonder, just so I can get an idea of whether this is good value or not... Ah yes, the GPD Pocket 2: https://droidbox.co.uk/gpd-pocket-2...p-2in1-tablet-umpc-portable-office-media.html. Let's run down the specs on the GPD Pocket 2, just to compare...
    • Core M3-8100Y
    • 8GB RAM
    • 128GB SSD (doesn't say whether it's PCIe or not...)
    • 1920*1200 7" screen
    • 6.8Ah battery
Huh... That's awfully similar... How much does the GPD Pocket 2 cost then? £594.59 - again, I presume shipping & handling will be extra.

I know that pretty much everyone here will have worked out the fact that this is a scam just by looking at the ad. But I have plenty of friends & family on Farcebook who know jack **** about computers and live their life through that bloody site; I'm fairly sure that some would also be totally taken in by this scam and would happily give this bunch of shitballs their home address and card details.

Absolutely ****ing zero editorial control from the largest publishing platform on the planet.

Too many people, blinded by greed, forget the old adage: if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

My point is though: how do you know if it looks too good to be true if you're not someone who knows how all this stuff works and knows what it's likely to cost?
