Yeah, call me a conspiracy nut but this stinks.
Under 24/7 constant surveillance, in a padded cell, after a previous attempt barely 2 weeks ago?

Legit suicide or not I bet Bill Clinton, Donald Trump, Alan Dershowitz, Steven Pinker and all Epstein's other prestigious party pals quietly popped a bottle last night.

EDIT: scrolling through Twitter I love how this event has finally united the entire American political spectrum in its shadiness.

I'll put £50 on he simply took the cowards way out.

The plea deal killed the investigation years ago plus it left Epstein free to destroy however much evidence he wanted to protect accomplices, so no need to kill him.

So it seems the investigation will in fact continue in some way? Some good news at least.

    ---

    EDIT:
    conspiracy ramblings
Just read that apparently Epstein wasn't even on suicide watch! They're either grossly incompetent (one of the most important prisoners in the country, who already made an attempt 2 weeks ago!!) or they just waited for this to happen.
    Again, it's awfully convenient.

People under-estimate the indifference and/or incompetence/laziness of prison staff. And over-estimate the quality of prison facilities, especially wrt mental health. So, you're right people can't fathom that the system would let this kind of thing happen, but it does, often with no consequences for the staff when it does.

Ultimately though... conspiracy or cock-up? We'll probably never know. And even if we do find out one way or another a large chunk won;t believe the conclusion reached.

Sure that makes sense, but this wasn't just another poor nobody with a mental illness they threw in jail. I don't get how Jeffrey freakin' Epstein would receive the routine (mis)treatment. He's the centerpiece of one of the most sensational criminal investigations of the decade and his face is on TV every night. Incompetence and laziness are rampant for sure, and they get people killed on a regular basis, but this is a whole other level of incompetence, a f*ckup of a cosmic scale. Negligence from the top of the justice system down to the prison staff; everyone knew Epstein was at risk and (one would presume) wanted to keep him alive.
They didn't lock up El Chapo in a garden shed and no prison would've been allowed to put him in one, even accidentally. How could this prison not have had even one guy keep an eye on their highly suicidal, priority #1 prisoner?

Well I guess accident or not, the difference is ultimately negligible.

Put it another way... if they treated a high-profile prisoner like Epstein that badly, think how badly they treat a regular schmo prisoner.

Also if it was was cockup of cosmic proportions, they'd probably rather you believe a conspiracy theory than admit they ****ed up that spectacularly.

Another weird wrinkle to this story...

Jeffrey Epstein's Death Was On 4Chan Before Officials Announced It — And Authorities Had To Look Into It
"About 38 minutes before news outlets first reported Jeffrey Epstein's death in prison, a 4chan user published a detailed post about it."

The original thread for those interested, clicking on the OP's ID highlights their posts:

(content warning: extreme antisemitism, racism and every other kind of bigotry and general nastiness you can imagine)

(to be clear I'm not suggesting this is part of a conspiracy :p:)

Authorities don't usually dox the dead until they've informed next of kin, so a delay in the official story coming out is perfectly normal.

Sure, as I said I wasn't suggesting otherwise. Just thought it was funny that exactly this story - which will likely turn out to be one of the biggest conspiracy theory magnets of the decade - would be broken on a corner of the internet infamous for its conspiracy theories. A place so notoriously unreliable that even the shadiest news outlets didn't report on it until the official story actually came out.

    Eh.
Fox's Shep Smith has been vocally critical of Trump on a very regular basis for the last 3 years now. Sean Hannity, Tucker Carlson, Laura Ingraham and Jeanine Pirro all still have their shows where they extoll God-King Trump's virtues with the zeal of a North Korean news anchor. Fox & Friends is still a hyperpartisan hugbox. Given Fox as a whole, this won't make a difference.
Fox occasionally allows outbursts like the above as a token gesture of "balance", but a consistently critical attitude would be financial suicide. They'd lose their audience, who love Trump (reminder that his Republican approval rating is about 90%). In fact they actually used to be a lot more critical in the run-up to the election but had to stop exactly because they were losing viewership.

Also notice that Cavuto's criticism, just like most of the rare Republican complaints you can find about Trump, is purely superficial. They may find his style distasteful or undignified, but are still completely on board with the (cruel, reckless, ill-reasoned, economically unsound) policies of his administration. I heard no mention of children in cages, or a dangerously lacking environmental policy, or even the disastrous predicted impact of Trump's tax cuts on the federal defecit (which Republicans usually claim to care so much about), just to name a few things.
You can bet that, should Trump be the Republican canditate of 2020, Neil Cavuto is still going to vote for him, as is any Fox News viewer who listened to this critique, even if they agreed with every word of it. Trump's voting block is solid as ever.

Unless the investigation turns up something truly dreadful (like he handed state secrets to Putin) the Senate will never move against him, whatever the House of representatives does.

Of course I hope it does.
