Hi guys Looking for recommendations for an ultra book. its like a minefield of a category. I was originality set on the matebook D from Huawei. But with all there recent issues with america and reading some driver issues alot of folks with ryzen on laptop / ultrabooks , from graphics glitches to dying. Ultra books seem worse for it (was looking at the hp x360, altho wasnt a fan of the touchpad ) Im really liking the look of the dell xps 13. These seem slick, however pricey, so i have a budget of around £500 - £600. I can get a used one between that price point used and older generation. 6th or 7th gen i7 but these ones with the 6200u and 7200u seem to be dual core not quad, so im a little put off. Now i wont be gaming on this, i have a big pc for that. I will be mainly using it for Uni, Some programming and document work so it does not need to be a power house, but obviously looking for bang for buck. Preferably looking for metal if possible. 256GB ssd. 1080p screen, no tn panels lol, i dont care for sound/speakers i have good headphones. Battery life a must, looking to try make it a full day at uni so 5-6 hours preferably more. Hit me if anyone owns one and recommends any , struggling lol
My old Radius never felt underpowered with a 2c/4t 6500U i7 but my zenbook with whiskey i7 8565 4c/8t feels noticeably quicker in general use, feels like a big upgrade, of course besides cores it boosts 1.4Ghz higher which is significant but even when its throttled right back it feels faster, of course newer machines come with more than just a faster CPU, they typically come with newer hardware so the zenbook has faster RAM and a faster NVMe disk vs the radius sata ssd probably all contribute to that snappiness in general use. I'd imagine a 2c/4t chip with similar supporting hardware would feel just as snappy. Inspiron range is not as flashy as XPS but will probably have something in budget. A secondhand XPS will probably have pretty highend supporting hardware.
@sandys didnt think on the ssd, nvme defo be the way to go, 256gb ones arent dear now adays either @RedFlames thanking you buddy. was the 7200u models i keep seeing around the 500 mark
well incase anyone was wondering i bought the matebook d, returned it due to damage which was a shame, couldnt get another so i got a hp x360 with ryzen 2500u, it seems no bad, we shall see how i get on
