Starting at 1TB ?! Really? 2019 is approaching it's end and their executives are thinking "You know what the enterprise market will need in the next few years? Another 1TB drive model. We really need to diversify our portfolio with both HGST and WD branded products at the 1TB capacity point. Going forward, the market for low capacity enterprise spinning hard drives is going to explode!".

I guess they haven't looked at the prices of entry-level 1TB enterprise SSDs. With QLC maturing in the next few years, those drives are going to be added as a free gift for every purchase of WD-branded mousepad, coffee mug, keychain, etc.

My take on the move is, they need an overly expensive disk to sell to private consumers and not true enterprise customers.

It will end up "Buy a T-shirt, get an enterprise HDD for free!" in a couple of years.
