Does seem that way doesn't it. The 1660 doesn't appear to have much going for it compared with the 1650 super. They'd have to cut the price or else just scrap it as you say.

It definitely feels like the stack is too crowded now. Four TU116 cards! 1660 Ti is surely unsustainable, which is probably fine since NV will likely be hitting near enough that performance while using dies with two fewer SMs.

You're assuming there wont be a 1660 Ti Super?

Not right away of course - Nvidia have to wait until enough folk buy into a GPU before rendering it obsolete and kicking them squarely in the nads.

It's about 1070 performance for £210. Whilst in a mire of sku's that future archaeologists will take whole careers deciphering, it's actually pretty decent value.

My goodness, the temerity of a component manufacturer to release new #thing that is faster and cheaper than their older #thing!

I'm on the fence with this. It does seem like a good card, yes. However, I can clearly remember 1070s fetching £230 or so before mining kicked off, and that was ages ago.

I mean yeah, if you buy all of your stuff new and don't have access to very difficult to access sales forums on certain websites then I can see it being a good value.

I also don't know if I would want to spend this much on just a plain old GPU. I think I'd rather find the extra for a 2060.

That'd be second hand though? You could get a 1080 for about £200 on eBay right now, but then you can always say that about any new card; get a faster 2nd hand card instead. If you were getting a 2060 you could pick up a 1080ti for 300-350 on eBay, so why bother win a 2060?

If you want a new card and this is your budget is about £200, it's a great card. The same performance would have cost you double in the "previous gen" (albeit 3 years ago thanks to the longevity of pascal and this being a half-refresh ish). A 2060 will give you ~10% increase in performance for a near 50% increase in cost. That is not good value.

Because a new 2060 offers very good RT in Control, without dying frame wise.

And looking at it? It's truly next gen.

I was talking new cards btw. Like, did I think RT tax was worth it for BFV and Metro? No, no I didn't. But Control is what's changed it for me.

It's like looking at Mirror's Edge (the original) with and without Physx. IE - a massive, truly game improving visual difference that I'd rather have than just 1070 performance.

And it's only what? About a £60 difference. It's worth it, IMO. Control is truly next gen.

Plus let's be honest, a 1070 is now a 1080p card. I retired my Titan Maxwell nearly 3 years ago for a TXP because it wasn't cutting it at 1440p any more.

Yeh definitely for 1080p. At this budget you’re not going to get something for 1440p. The 2060 is not in this budget. It's £90 more, which is a significant increase.

I also wouldn't say the 2060 is good for 1440p either. It's 'capable', but will be pushed beyond it's limits very quickly. It's odd you say you don't get much FPS loss from on Control as the general consensus was that it, just like the other RTX titles, will cripple your framerates and you'd need at least a 2080super for 60FPS at 1440p.

    I found one for £289. So it's £70 more.

I'd surmise prices will drop further soon too, as the super cards and the next gen arrive.

They are dropping in price. I'd also imagine Black Friday will be interesting....
