So, I managed to find this with ~£60 off the price and couldn't resist:

Is two weeks over Christmas long enough to get the Landy and this built?

Oh, that's nice. I REALLY do want to the get the Defender at some point, but this is a gorgeous model, I don't have anything with the linear actuators on it (got some pneumatics on the Unimog and plenty of gear-ey goodness in the 911 GT3 RS). I love the stabilizing wheels on the mid joint too, that's always been a wobbly part of these types of models.

Don't actually wear them in bed, they're just super comfy for lounging around the pit of despair, or my house as you might call it, while I'm in all the discomfort. I've only 2 pairs that fit and 1 is quite old and tatty. Got a couple of bottoms that are quite thick for going into the winter months.

If you have spare funds (and other half's permission of course) I highly recommend the Chiron. The gearbox is a work of art that made my head spin when I tried to understand it.

Yeah, my nephew and brother in law bought and built that. The wee lad could not stop telling me all about it. My brother in law is a Rolls Royce engineer and he said the same about the gearbox in it. I do REALLY want one, but the limitations on the required pennies are stopping me. I managed to pick up the 911 with a slight, but still pretty good discount when Toys R Us went under.

If you can find one, the Unimog is a very good kit as well, that is all motor-powered through a decent 4-lever gearbox setup to change drive to things like the pneumatic pump, the front or rear PTO system, the supporting legs, and so on.

I received a call from Currys asking me if for £25 I'd like to have someone come to my home to help set up and show me how to use my latest purchase. And for another £20 take away my old one.

Somewhat bemused, I say no, I don't think so, but thanks I guess.

"Okay no problem, can I ask why?"

Ermmm... because I think I can probably work it out. But thanks again.

The purchase? A washing machine? A PC?

No. A Dyson V11 cordless vac. I'm making good progress making my way through the manual. Just made it past the "Plug in to charge" section, and next moving on to the "pull trigger to use" section. I have high hopes I'll work it out, but comforted to know that Currys have my back if not.

In a way, that service sounds useful to folk who look at tech like it's a cat that started speaking, but equally.. I wonder how patient the people doing the explaining are. I'd bet they're under a fair amount of time pressure if they're only charging 25 notes for it.

    Maybe I missed a trick.

If for £25 they could come and thoroughly show me how to use it. In every room. Whilst I watch TV.

Their fees are now extortion. Plus they broke my tumbler and I had to call out an engineer.

They charged me something daft to set it up too. I had to though because of the circumstances.
