I can edit my original post if you want to move everything else; would have been a lot easier 3 pages ago though...
Are they? Really? If you're happy with me splitting the thread, I can split the thread - though on my laptop, I ain't trying to mess around on my phone...
This is not intended to be devil's advocate but rather real talk. Terrestrial astronomy does nothing to enrich my life. An internet connection faster than 55kb/s (my actual average) would be amazing.
No, I don't mean megabits. There is no cable, no DSL here. I have a tethered cell phone connection at 55kb/s average download. Rural Alabama at its finest.
I can sympathise there, till a few months back I was on a solid 167kbs DL downloading anything was painful.
Going to sidestep the whole Musk debate because, yeah, that needs its own thread somewhere in Serious, and I don't have the patience any more. In terms of politics, global issues, climate change, terrorism, poverty, economics, etc... the last 10 years have been an utter sh!t show and there are no signs that it's getting better any time soon. For me personally however it's been very positive indeed, especially the last year or two.
Funny how none of us were talking about scary new virus that was starting to rear its head. It was about November/December in 2019 when people were starting to raise the alarm bells about a very very serious new disease in parts of China... Hindsight, eh?
We need a change of government, so the second half of this decade can be the period when food banks go into decline, because of reduced demand...
The Western world is 100% food secure; the need for food banks is just a symptom of the rest of our long list of problems. A lot of fertilizer production and crops may be impacted by the funny business in Ukraine, so the rest of the world might be in for a rough ride. If you want some truly depressing reading, Peter Zeihan's latest book is a good place to start.
The need for food banks here, is down to the incompetence and ‘screw the poor’ attitude, of our Tory government.
Food banks weren't a new thing that the Tories caused, they did exist in one form or another when we still had a Labour government. Absolutely no denying that they were nowhere near as widespread or well known before we had over a decade of Tory government - who'd have ever thought we'd have a situation where ****ing hospitals have food banks for their staff ffs...
Tories don't do half measures: Corruption - all in Lies - all in Cronyism - all day, everyday Wrecking the UK economy in a single day - check Crippling the NHS to the point where they can flog it off to the Americans to "save" it - on target Foodbanks were an annoying fringe thing until the Tories fully embraced them. I'm just surprised they haven't yet tried to monetise them through some kind of franchise system.
Does my memory deceive me, or did a Tory council throw a bash to "celebrate" the opening of a new foodbank... complete with a slap-up buffet? No. No, it does not. That's exactly what happened.
