I know there will be a simple answer to this so i will ask.

Bought a new TV. LG C9 OLED. And what a piece of kit it is!! However , having some issues with the resolution. Im running it on my gaming setup ( Ryzen 2600 / RTX 2060 ) .

Native desktop obviously 4k and size set at 200% . I can set it at 1080p 120HZ no worries , 4k 60HZ no worries ( for now anyway as a Gsync update coming very very soon and will go 120 ) but when i try 1440p its stuck at 30 Hz??

Now, i know the panel is capable of doing 1440p 120Hz ( maybe after the next firmware update ) but surely it can do 1440p @ 60Hz?

What would it be thats stopping me from setting 1440p 60??

Both the LG C9 and the RTX 2060 support HDMI 2, so that shouldn't be the problem.

However beware junk like AV Receivers, Home Theatre systems etc, those often use ancient HDMI versions. So make sure it is literally GPU - HDMI cable - TV.

Download and run https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/dump_edid.html . It will tell you what resolution modes/refresh rates the TV offers to your device.
For example, for mine it says:

    Code:
    *****************************************************************

    Registry Key : DISPLAY\GSM5B09\5&c3e9284&0&UID37126
Monitor Name : LG Ultra HD
    Manufacture Week : 7 / 2017
    ManufacturerID : 27934 (0x6D1E)
    ProductID : 23305 (0x5B09)
    Serial Number (Numeric) : *********
    EDID Version : 1.4
    Display Gamma : 2.20
    Vertical Frequency : 40 - 61 Hz
    Horizontal Frequency : 135 - 135 KHz
    Image Size : 60.0 X 34.0 cm (27.2 Inch)
    Maximum Image Size : 60 X 34 cm (27.2 Inch)
    Maximum Resolution : 3840 X 2160
    Support Standby Mode : Yes
    Support Suspend Mode : No
    Support Low-Power Mode : No
    Support Default GTF : Yes
    Digital : Yes

    Supported Display Modes :
         640 X 480 60 Hz
         800 X 600 60 Hz
        1024 X 768 60 Hz
        1280 X 720 60 Hz
        1152 X 864 60 Hz
        1280 X 800 60 Hz
        1280 X 1024 60 Hz
        1600 X 900 60 Hz
        1920 X 1080 60 Hz
        3840 X 2160 60 Hz

Another alternative is the tool mentioned in NVIDIA customer help pages :

There are 4 different types of HDMI cables:
    • High-speed with Ethernet
    • High-speed without Ethernet
    • Standard-speed with Ethernet
    • Standard-speed without Ethernet
(although since next to nothing makes use of Ethernet over HDMI we might as well say there are two)

If you found some old one in a drawer it could well be that it is an old one.
