I used to have differently balanced images but grew unhappy with the application that was pushing the pictures to the appropriate desktops.

So for now, I have one picture sized for the top screen, on all three.

I love all things cyberpunk, have done ever since I read that opening sentence in Neuromancer (the quote in my sig), just about worn out my copy. Been into pen and paper cyberpunk rpgs for years, even looked into larping a while back, but those lot were a bit out there, even for me...

Decided to see what an old Microsoft classic would look like at 1920x1200.

    Pretty good, really!

Don't think I've ever posted what my system looks like when I'm working:

    Screenshot from 2019-10-04 10-14-18.png
Left-hand Firefox window is for stuff like email, Twitter, and writing in Draftin; right window is for researchy things, these forums, and for some reason WhatsApp which I guess should really be off to the left with Twitter and Slack.

(Interesting little aside: research has shown that on average users pay more attention to stuff at the right-hand side of the screen than at the left.)

Then there's the terminal in the bottom-left, with lovely pixel-perfect bitmap font. Music on Console running in there for entertainment while I work, scripted to pause automatically if someone rings the doorbell; there's a second GNU Screen window in it with a connection to my server and its IRC client.

Not pictured: The GIMP, running in the background. That goes full-screen when I'm editing an image, then gets minimised again to bring back the other windows when I'm done.

Stuff in the system tray - or whatever it's called in GNOME Shell, I dunno - includes a system monitor, toggle to dim the display on-demand, Syncthing, Keybase, Moolticute, Insync, the Digilent agent for my oscilloscope, Google Music, and the weather. Also sometimes a Bluetooth icon, despite the desktop not having Bluetooth.

If I'm working on more than one project at once, I'll usually have at least one more virtual desktop with its own independent windows too - but not at the mo'.

Little change of wallpaper - though I don't know why I bother, really, 'cos I hardly ever see it...

Forumites of a certain vintage should have no trouble recognising the image!

Now-a-days I use this wallpaper for pretty much all my systems.
This is on my work laptop. I hope it gets replaced soon by something with a more usable OS...

I mean, it's newer than the previous WFWG one, aye - or the Sun SPARCStation one before that!

Once you go back far enough, though, you start just having single colours - blue (Commodore), green (Atari), that sort of thing. Got to keep with the times, innit?
