Win7 went EOL today. End of an era. God I hate Win10. If my games ran on Linux, I'd still be on Mint. Remember our fallen.
All but one of my PCs have been moved over to 10. One is left, patched up and offline to run some work software which I refuse to move across to the monthly subscription model, Robbing Ba$tard$ Oh and my first work laptop in the attic with Win 200 on it. A solid grey Tosh that will outlast us all...
I somewhat share the sentiment. My version of what would happen if OSs could talk to you when they boot up: Win 7: 'Hey! I'm ready to go! What do you need?' Win10: 'What do you want FFS? BTW I'm downloading another update because I hate you, so give up on trying to watch Netflix.Oh, and here's another useless feature you didn't ask for.'
Have you tried steam play/proton? Let's you play you steam pc library - some games better than others but still. They've made it very easy to try windows gaming on linux now.
Also I recently saw Playwithlinux or something of that ilk while looking for options to make 365 work on penguin. Seemed to be mostly gaming oriented, might be worth a nosey. I moved to 10 way back when it was free from 7, and I don't mind it. It doesn't seem all that different to 7 to me. A little quicker here, a little slower there. But all in all the same thing with a new face.
Not sure I know enough about Win10 to know if it's broken or not... it works for what I do, so I just get on with it. Windows 7 was fine, too... as was XP; never used any of the 'bad versions of Windows' (Vista & 8/8.1 - looking at you pair) in anger, but I'm sure what remedial work I did on them wasn't because they were good
I resisted, for a while - in the early days, Windows 10 ran slower than 7 so I felt justified in holding off. That was years ago. I dug out an old Win7 laptop a wee while back - it was frustrating to use.
been running W10 at work for a while now and its definitely got better as its gone on. I have resisted moving my gaming rig from 7 to 10 as its setup just how I like it ( game saves etc ect) but I am due a purge soon so may stick another SSD and put 10 on that whilst keeping my 7 drive in case I want to swap back.
I finally went W10 a few months ago when i moved to Ryzen. It seems to have developed much beyond its start, i've had no issues. Then again a fresh install on newer gear helps.
I did an in-place upgrade from 7 to 10 fairly recently and haven't had any issues with losing settings or whatever - the entire process was pretty much seamless. I had my documents (music/photos/saves etc) on a separate drive to C and my Steam library on another drive, and following the upgrade none of that was touched. Having heard horror stories of upgrading Windows rather than doing a clean install, I was pleasantly surprised at how easily it went!
I'm still running Win7 on my PC at home, having used it exclusively since the RC came out in 2009. I'll really miss Win7 when I finally get shot of it, but I agree that Win10 has come on in leaps and bounds since its release. I use it every day on my work PC.
I upgraded to W10 when the original free upgrade was offered, August 2016 I think. Still not had any problems with it, same goes for the wife's PC.
The garage laptop (as in the laptop I use in my garage rather than a 'garage' laptop) still runs XP. I have laptops that run 7 & 8 whilst my rig runs 10 and has does so without any bother.
Try an entire server estate running Server 2008 with it enabled. An about 80% of the laptops/desktops on the estate running win10 which naively has it turned off, but most of them need data held on those servers.
