    Hello Gents.
I've been a good boy and washed the dishes, so I was given a Budget of £230-250 for an upgrade.
Attached pictures showing what I currently have.

I was on a look for CPU, but it turns out if I want to change that, I might have to change Mobo and RAM, from what I've read.

I saw a good deal on the Ryzen 5 2600 , 2600x, currently for less than £120, but I might have to change much more than that. I did a comparisson search between my CPU vs 2600x and it is miles better on paper and on benchmarks.

I don't mind second hand good working items too.
Also I don't know if my generic stock cooler would work with that newer CPU.
Also I think my 11years old PC tower case is about to retire, having issues with it's front panel ports and buttons, but still functional.

My PSU is Antec TruePower 650W and back in 2010 it was a great product, I still don't have issues with it.

I want to upgrade my Monitor too, but that will be in a few months. Current monitor has a great panel, but not so "Gamery" at a mear 60hz.

The rest of my setup is:

GPU - GeForce GTX 970 by Gainward

    Monitor - Dell ultrasharm U2415 - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Dell-Ultra...1627234&sprefix=dell+monitor+U,aps,169&sr=8-1

    HDD - 2xSSDs (1 for boot, 1 for safe backup) , 3x 1TB HDDs, 1x 2TB HDDs for media

    Case - Coolermaster Elite 430 - https://www.scan.co.uk/products/coo...ormance-case-with-side-window-120mm-front-led

    PSU - Antec-Truepower-650W- https://www.amazon.co.uk/Antec-Truepower-650W-Power-Supply/dp/B001Z07VQK

KBD - Razer Blackwiddow (2012 model)

    Mouse - Logitech G-Pro (Wired)
Sound - Logitech 2+1 Speakers ( 200W output, not sure about the model)
Logitech HD Camera, NETGEAR 5G WiFi receiver ( can't get ethernet to my room)
    Generic Headphones, CPU Cooler etc...

I am open to your suggestions and potential questions.

Oooof, even second had a CPU, MB and RAM will eat all of that budget. I got my CPU, MB and RAM July last year second hand and it was £200! You'll probably be able to get a new case of PSU with the rest, but they'll be your lot!

Hey mate, I was looking for a CPU only, but after some research It turns out I would need MOBO and RAM. The rest of the items are not so important, I just shared my frustration with a hope of compassion :D

Yeh, totally! The worst part is those CPU's performed so badly they're not even worth much on the second hand market, the RAM may be though. If you have access to the forum marketplace then keep an eye on it, some stuff in your price range will pop up in time!

Mainbords these days are very boring similar, so not much variation in what they offer (unless you spend vast sums).

As such yes, the board would be fine.
However, I would pay the £2 extra for the 2600x.

The CPU does come with a cooler that is acceptable, so you don't have to worry about that (unless you wanted to aim for a high overclock or very low noise).

    The RAM i found 16 GB at 3200mhz on ebay for £69.95 - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Corsair-...309434?hash=item1f06eef3ba:g:Ef8AAOSwAyddDmVW

Then the Mainboard i could NOT find cheaper than the link you send me at CClonline for £61.94 (Brand New) https://www.cclonline.com/product/2...AID-Gigabit-LAN-Integrated-Graphics-/MBD2466/

And last but not least, the CPU - I could stretch a bit and get the Ryzen 7 2700x , or save a few quid and settle on the 5, 2600x , In case I want to upgrade at some point in the future and get a second monitor, I guess the 7-2700x should be better for multitasking, while in terms of performance while gaming, there shouldnt be much difference between the two. Would you recommend the 7-2700x or the 5-2600x ? I will not get a second monitor in the near future.

    https://www.cclonline.com/product/2...rocessor-8-Core-16MB-L3-Cache-Boxed-/CPU0540/

    69.95 + 61.94 + 115.20 = 247.09
    or

    69.95 + 61.94 + 154.97 = 286.86

I dont know if CCLonline has shipping charges, but if not, im just around the right budget.

In gaming there won't be much of a difference between the 2600x and 2700x.
But yes, outside of gaming it can have quite the advantage (of course if that is worth an extra £40 is up to you).

As for shipping and CCL, they offer guaranteed delivery dates for a fee or sometime in the next couple days for free.

Great advises buddy, one last question - I am tempted to go for the 5 - 2600x and get a faster RAM at 3600 mhz, that is only £10 extra. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Corsair-...711621&hash=item522e6a871c:g:2XsAAOSwgHZdYZUg
Will the system support this RAM , or the better question is - can the full potential of the extra 400mhz be utilised ? Is there much benefit in this faster memory stick ?
This would bring the budget to around £260.

Don't go over 3200 on Ryzen 2000 series it's not worth it.

Also be careful about Corsair RAM as you ideally still want Samsung.

You'll get far more longevity out of an 8 core imo.

Nowadays 6 cores are necessary for quite a few games and that's only going to go higher into the future. 8 cores is like, entry high end now rather than the norm.

But yeah 3200 on RAM is plenty high enough.

The only reason to go for 3600 or higher RAM would be potential resale value if you are planning to upgrade again shortly.
Going by my own experience with Ryzen 1xxx / 2xxx CPUs you'll have more luck tightening timings than clocking RAM anyway.

As for worries about it not being Samsung, it is only 16GB, no crazy clocks involved and it ain't the early days of Ryzen 1xxx bios development, so it'll be fine.

Thanks guys, I had a day to think on this upgrade, and decided to go for the 5-2600x , with the 3600mhz memory. In case i will do an upgrade in a couple of years, the 3600 RAM should be re-usable then. I am tempted to increase the budget to 300 and get the 7-2700x , but for that I would not only have to wash the dishes but do the hoovering too...FOR A MONTH....

It might be a bit late now, but AMD quietly released a refresh of the Ryzen 5 1600 at the end of last year, except it's really a Ryzen 2600 and it's £80 (or it should be, seems around £100 now the gougers know how good it is). Overclocking isn't as good as the 2600X, but in all other aspects the new '1600' CPU performs very similarly.

The part number on the new ones is YD1600BBAF instead of YD1600BBAE for the old one.

Hey guys, I made up my mind about the CPU, Ram and Main board. However I might as well upgrade the case too, while I'm still committed.

Any good functional cases that would fit 3HDDs, 1 SSD and the rest of the items from the new build, with fairly good looks and good fans?
I set a budget of about 35-40. Thanks.

There are very few cases for that price which qualify as decent... space for 3 HDDs almost reduces it to needle in a haystack situation.

So I'd recommend looking around for a used case.

I did some research and I found a few cases that are around my budget and might work with all my components. Can anyone please have a look at suggest what is actually a good product, I presume you would say that they are all ****, but I wish you dont :D
Also Is my PSU gonna work if it is mounted at the top of the case, rather than the bottom ? Antec-Truepower-650W- https://www.amazon.co.uk/Antec-Truepower-650W-Power-Supply/dp/B001Z07VQK

Some cases have lots of fans.... I personally loke the first one - Stormforce.

Yes, PSU will work mounted in the top of the case, if that's how the case is designed. The case V-T posted would get my vote out of those options.
