You realise I will now be reciting this every time (which is quite a lot) I wash my hands in the hospitals where I work... :p

And then left us all hanging, waiting for an update.

I thought the fingerprint reader on my phone wasn't working properly, but in the end I realized it was because I caught the end of my thumb soldering. So in effect my phone is working fine but doesn't recognise my new damaged bit of body. It's a whole new paradigm.

This is why your phone originally wanted you to register TWO fingerprints! :p

Indeed, and I did, but it's tricky retraining your brain to use the other one.

Best not to use fingers and thumb on the same hand. You never know!

You know what they say: life is what happens when you're busy making modding plans... I am still working on it, though.

I always register two adjacent fingers on each hand. This way I can operate my mobile left- and right-handed, and have a back-up finger right next to the one that is out of commission.

    I probably overthink these things.

I'm really glad I'm not the only one who thought 'what happens if one of my hands is cut off?'.

There is the PIN to fall back on, which Android sometimes asks for anyway so it's not something you can easily forget through lack of use.

My thumb is healing, which I can tell because it's gradually working more frequently. I still find the convergence of biology and electronics a bit weird.

Yup. Although rationally, if that were to happen, accessing your mobile might not be your biggest concern.

It's a bit like detergent commercials that claim their soap will get blood stains out of your shirt. Seems kind of a situation in which finding the right detergent might not be your biggest problem.

My reasoning for one finger on each hand was so that if I did hack a hand off I could call an ambulance with the other whilst using my mouth to apply tourniquet.

I know i'd have to talk out of the corner of my mouth but, ya know, multi-tasking.

Well, as a multiple murderer, it's actually the main deciding factor in which brand I use. Surprisingly, the rather innocently named 'Fairy' is really good.

You could still dial the emergency number as that function is available even with the phone being locked.

...but you'd be kicking yourself later once you realised (as long as you hadn't cut your foot off at the same time :D)

    Much demote?

Learning that The Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy turned 42 yesterday...

EDIT - Link to first episode on BBC Sounds
It's only dated by the barman being impressed when told to "Keep the change" as Ford offers him £5 for 6 pints of bitter - Because it cost around 23p a pint in 1978
