That would be in a similar ballpark to yer average cyclist trying to get a 55x11 gear turned on a 700C wheeled bike... eh, @legoman @Vault-Tec?

    From standstill, I mean...

    When I was time-trialling I used 54 on 12 with 700Cs.

Nice to have 'in the bank' for a sprint finish... not ideal to have to spin that up to get going, n/m uphill.

Its doable depends on the riders power output. So a track cyclist would have no problems, I will admit I'd probably struggle but It would get going
As a reference, I can peak power about 900W with a functional threshold of 195W over 1hr max gearing 50X11. My fitness has slipped I used to be a clean 1000W easily but my FTP has gone up from 167 to 195.

Now, track cyclists, they can usually stamp out 2500W with an FTP of 5-700W and a fixed gearing of upto 60X12 and they can easily do a standing start.

So yes possibly but will depend on who your asking to do it

My mid-90's LeMond Reno was (well; still is) geared with a 52-39 front & I swapped the standard cassette out for the 11-17 (7sp) rear; I was never good enough to get any output measured, though.
I remember a few times my cadence getting high enough that either my left knee/hip started to twinge; probably my cleats were 'out' or it was an injury... but I know I couldn't sustain it & had to back off.

Back, then I used to dream of a 55/42 & 11/21 9-speed drive train... but it never happened (10-speed wasn't even pro. spec., back in that day).

You get a bike like that off the line by standing on the pedal and letting bodyweight initiate the motion, slowly. Meanwhile I used to think I was hardcore pushing a 36t and 12-27 block on my mountain bike, now I realise I was stupid and it's 32t, 11-42 for life.

Track start, back of the bikes held up by a stand an its your legs doing the shove (plus shunting your body weight)

No ramps in club TTing, you get held up and given a bit of a push, at least that is how it was when I was racing, I don't know about now. Never used a big gear to start. On a 10 or 25 you want strong acceleration, a big gear would defeat that and on a long distance you don't waste energy pulling hard from the start unless you are a lot better than I was, especially on a 12 hour, the longest distance I ever rode.

The key to accelerating hard using a big gear is pulling up on the up stroke with your bum in the air, thus increasing the downforce on the downstroke and utilising both legs as well as your weight, easier, I found with clipless pedals (Time shoes on Look pedals in my case). My best mate, who was a better hill climber than me, could never out-sprint me.

Highlighting how shifting vowels has hilarious outcomes when New Zealanders talk...? :)

Just a shame they over dramatised it for comedic effect... and ruined it.

At first I was wondering if it was legit, but then it got too silly.
