34inch is such a game changer in terms of productivity, I was a bit worried it might have been a bit faddy but I’m loving it so far.

problem is I have this real niggling feeling in the back of my head as soon as I can justify the cost this will be flogged and replaced by a 49” - 5120x1440 display... True be told I’d do it now if I could!

I've got a 49" monitor at work and it's a real interesting experience.

Looks like a much better solution than 2 x 27" monitors, side by side.

Less flexible though, difficult to re-purpose half a monitor :D

Takes a while to get used to. Feels bigger than 2 x 24"

    It has pros and cons

This being the biggest con. Ideally i would be able to have 3 snap points (left, middle and right) but I can't work out how to do it.

 It can get like that at times. "what's that over ther... *oww my neck"

I was meaning more physically, if you wanted to move half the monitor to a different pc for something etc haha.

I could be wrong, but I think you can do this sort of thing with FancyZones, which is part of MS's PowerToys (current version is v0.18 iirc).

I use Ubuntu at work as I do dev work (Or so my job description technically says). I've found a solution with keyboard shortcuts but nothing that lets me just drag windows.

I don't think you will as I believe MS has window snapping patented...

Looked into alternative windows managers? I'm sure a tiling manager could setup so you had 6 (3x2) tiles for example.

Assuming you're using a GNOME Shell-based Ubuntu, gTile should do what you're after unless I'm misremembering - I used it for a while, but can't remember why I disabled it...

    Didn't go out today.

Going home tomorrow. Absolutely crapping my pants. Excited, though. Can't wait to smell the baked seaweed in the evenings :)

Ahhh fair play, what monitor are you using?

I've been looking at them all afternoon, the price makes my eyes water but I had my trusty old 27 inch 1920x1080 Samsung for approximately 7 years so putting that into perspective the cost over time isn't that much if you think about it.

I like the 34" and I'll certainly be using it until the end of the year but I can't help but envision something just bigger.

Problem being I could easily go and get a 22-24" monitor to sit alongside for £120-£150 so its hard to see the benefits

Job interview next week. Relatively easy IT job, decent salary, decent location (read: I could afford a studio flat)
