See, while I agree on paper - Your collection of stuff will always expand to fill the space you have - I still love buying storage.

There's like.. 40% less work to do when you move, 'cause it's all in a box already.

I need to buy some shelving for the basement so I can slap a bunch more RUB's in there..

That's another reason for the work bench. I've got a place to stash a bunch more RUB's of stuff, and a place to work.

 

Mine is more of a case that the storage options expand to fill the house itself, my solution is to throw shite out but that's not acceptable apparently.

You can't keep endlessly putting stuff into a house without throwing some stuff away, FFS it's simple physics.

Maybe that's my problem, using logic with SWMBO.

 

Sounds like you need to get better at storage tetris!

Although, tbh, there is something cathartic about going through stuff in boxes and just chucking unused crap away/selling it.

 

I did that over the weekend! So satisfying!

 

I've freed up a fair chunk of space and about £2,000 by throwing stuff at ebay during lockdown.

 

I'd be better at getting rid of surplus if I was able to organise logistics more efficiently... the amount of surplus PC parts I have - but am in no hurry to liquidate - could probably fund a few upgrades; but I don't have the drive to expedite it.

Selling it is the easy part - sourcing the requisite packing &/or trusting a 3rd party to get it delivered in one piece is where I lack faith.

 

I don't have that problem, I have an absolute mountain of cardboard boxes, padded envelopes and other packaging material that I can't get rid of because our local recycling centre is only open for (pre-booked) garden waste, household rubbish and small electrical appliances at present.

Depends on the quantity, I guess...

 

It is not household waste, it is recycling. I don't want to put perfectly recyclable cardboard into the generic waste skip.

My guess is that their upstream "supply chain" for disposing or recycling of certain waste is not fully setup yet. They can't take wood, rubble, oil, batteries, clothing, shoes or large electrical appliances (like TV's) yet.

 

For all you know it goes stright in the bin anyway...
