I guess the "back" finally peeled off the "take back control" slogan.

"Control something, whatever it is and ignore if you could have done so all along" just doesn't make a very catchy campaign slogan,

But neither does "much very good information"

(if you get that reference get help)

    Something must be done!

...to disguise the fact we could've done something all along and didn't.

    9th January 2020:

"Chlorine-washed chicken and hormone-treated beef will be kept out of the UK under any trade deal with the US, the environment secretary has promised. Theresa Villiers told the BBC the current European Union ban on the two foods will be carried over into UK legislation after Brexit."

    3rd June 2020:

"Britain ready to allow import of chlorinated chicken from US. Britain is prepared to permit imports of chlorinated chicken from the US but will slap high tariffs on cheaply-produced food in order to minimise the impact on British farmers."

Indeed. And those "high tariffs" will be the first casualty of the upcoming US-UK trade negotiations anyway, so financially struggling families will buy it because it's cheap, and UK farmers will go out of business. Brexit: people getting what they voted for.

Was thinking about the chicken, tough how it seems we're going to be importing meat it would be illegal to produce here. Also not every time you eat chicken is its provenance displayed, all those takeaway chicken curries for example, it's going to be impossible for the consumer to opt out.

Oh, it goes further than that: one of the US's asks for any future trade deal is to make it illegal to display country of origin on products, on the very reasonable assumption that everyone will leave the US-sourced chicken on the shelves and buy British/EU instead. It will be impossible to tell the difference, until you get it home and it smells of chlorine and/or makes you sick.

This is why I'm more or less veggie/vegan at this stage, that and the lactose intollerance. If this happens I'll just give up on meat andbe done with it I think.

It's all part of that 'taking back control'. :p

Meanwhile the UK's new solution for the COVID-19 crisis: send it abroad!
