    Howdy

Been on and off thinking "shall Ii upgrade" but I'm very indecisive, so I need a nudge from the experts

    Current system
    i5 4460
    H81M-ITX/Wifi
    2x4gb Corsair PC3-10700
    MSI GTX 970
    MATX Case

I intend to keep the GPU for now but I feel the mobo etc is worth upgrading.

Hoping you lovely people can help be decide if I need to or not.
I like the sound of the Ryzen train
Budget if I do would be £150-£200

Have you felt a decrease in performance? Games suffering?

    4770k perhaps a better option?

That cpu is almost certainly holding back your gpu's performance

No but I have only recently being getting back to my PC gaming

Not sure why but been feeling the CPU is an issue.

Mobo only has 2 RAM slots so would like more and I've noticed thet GPUZ reports running at x8 mode (I know mobo can do x16).

Part reason to consider upgrading is that this PC can be put into an ITX case with a spare graphics card for the littlen to have for school work and some gaming

Then it'd be selfish not to!

Seriously, I went from a 3770 and haven't regretted it for one second. That is still a capable chip for minor tasks so your 4770 rig would be ideal for schoolwork and not too taxing gaming.

Is what I have too, but its about £250 for just the CPU and motherboard, so at least another £50 for RAM, you'll be looking at £300.

Looks good. That board will struggle with higher wattage CPU's, so thats something to keep in mind in the future, and the faster the RAM the better, but what you have there will be fine :)

I've never been one to upgrade just the CPU, usually a mobo as well

Looking into it a bit deeper, iff you ensure there's decent airflow over the VRM you'll be fine with a lot of stuff!

Do I need a BIOS update on the mobo or is everything good to go?

I had no problems with mine, so you should be fine. These will have been made after the 3 series released, so they'll have the newer BIOS :)

I'd think after this amount of time i'd expect them to be sent out with a workable bios.

There may be a newer one with an odd tweak here or there but, yeah, should be workable.

Well, yeah there is that but I used Paypal credit (4 months interest free) on the mobo and RAM.
I have to hack my own mind to get over spending anxiety :hehe:
