Okay so I have the CPU Rzyen 3600, Ram, as above and the deisgn focus G case. What are peoples views on the Corsair CV550W and does the 5600XT run hot at all. I'm looking at an XFX model or if I can save a bit elsewhere then I can maybe push him to go for a gtx 2060.
I've already got the ram? Its the power supply I'm stuck on now trying to get something half decent for £50 if I can. I've managed to squeeze a GTX 2060 into the budget as well so don't need advice on the 5600 XT either
Yeh, I only saw that after I posted Not sure about that PSU, its all fairly meh at that price point if memory serves. I'm sure it'll be fine, probably a bit warm and loud. I doubt corsair would do anything nasty
Just had a quick look and for a budget PSU it seems to get good reviews. So long as it meets your power needs i'm not sure you'd find anything better for that price point (not sure what EVGA and the like offer for £50). You'll just need to find space to stash the cables as it's non-modular.
Ordered the CV550w and luckily scan got the Asrock board back in stock today, £3 dearer but meh, amazon have moved their delivery date back to 1-2 months on the site but the order stated 10th of July. That's been cancelled now anyway.
Started building, seems like a nice case but wire management might be challenging. I bought 2 Arctic P14 fans and Fractal have thoughtfully given the roof aperture 2 140mm dust filters, the only problem is that the cut out in the 5.25" tray isn't really big enough to sport both the fan and the dust cover. You can pull on the 5.25" bay frame and it will slide in and be pinched by the frame but its a little awkward. The case comes with 2 120mm fans mounted in the front, should I stick them in the roof and put the arctic fans in the front? Also I feel that maybe the roof fans are going to starve the cpu cooler of air a little but I could possibly do as in the picture below which seems a bit unusual but works in my head (apologies for the cruse drawing). Crap Fan Pic by CrapBag posted 3 Jul 2020 at 21:58 Or stick with the standard 2 exhausts in the roof.
Which case is it? Fluid dynamics doesn't work like that I'm afraid, just use the two in the roof as exhauses or intakes. Mixing them will diminish both.
Yeh thought that might be the case (pun intended) its a fractal design focus G. Should I swap the 120's and 140's around? The 120's are white leds.
Depends on what the are . Whichever performs better put on the front with the dust filtering, then pop the others on the top. If you're not using the drive cage pop a 120 on the bottom, thats a filtered intake, so will maximise positive pressure
140s as intakes at the front, 120s as roof exhausts. Go for a positive pressure setup (assuming greater cfm for the 140mm fans).
Word of warning to anyone who buys these Artcic P14 fans, they are thick as hell. Seems like it wasn't completely fractals problem afterall although a little more space would have been nice. I can't use the 140's in the front as they are too thick for the provided bolts.
Pc built, kinda wish I'd gone for a modular PSU but I managed to get the wiring really tidy anyway. Pc boots stupidly quick although when you press the power button nothing happens for about 5-7 seconds and then the LEDs on the fans light and windows boots in less than 2 seconds. Why the seems like it doing nothing pause though?
