Given Zen 3 is supposed to be launching next month or so, is it worth holding off anyway? That way you can see if either the next gen sits in the same price range, Which hopefully it will, or the current gen drop in price when the new chips are launched. EDIT: The other question of course is whether you need 32GB of RAM or if 16 would do, at least to start with.
Was thinking of waiting if new bits are due very soon. But was hoping more like a couple of weeks. It’s more because the ram just seems to make sense getting 2 larger sticks now then if needed get more later. I’ve heard.. somewhere.. that 16 is the ‘lower’ a mount to go for, and 32 is the sweet spot for these new cpus/mobos etc? Unless I’m mistaken. And getting faster. Hence I put for 3600 not 3200. Id love to go higher but prices seem to increase exponentially after 3600. I do also do a fair bit of data transfer between PCs/NAS/HDD’s .. so more ram wouldn’t hurt that I’d have thought.
16GB will be enough for gaming but I prefer to have 32GB. It is highly unlikely that you will utilise 64GB within the next 5+ years unless you get into productivity. How come your budget is £600 but your pricing is $559.96 ???
It keeps showing in USD not GBP on that site. Budget is £450, only £600 if I wait A while and really push the boat out To the limits of what I can afford.

This. I run 32GB on the desktop, and the only time I ever touch the edges is when I'm editing high-res photos. For gaming, 16GB is plenty. If you need to shave more off, maybe look at a lower-end motherboard - mine's an Asus Prime B450M-K, and it's never given me an inch of trouble. Cost me £71, apparently, which is half what it's showing for the one you've picked. That's basically £140 saved right there!
If you do buy a B450 board just make sure to order the mobo and CPU from CCL as they'll update the bios for you, else you run the risk of getting a board that won't work out of the box with a 3xxx CPU.
I was going to suggest a B450 to save money, it depends if you'll be picking up a 4000 chip or not in the future. If you're sticking with 3000 then a B450 will do (unless you're wanting pcie 4.0 and the like).
Would they not ship from most places with a bios upto date enough to deal with this now? And MSI Max boards are all ready to go for 3000 chips, not sure about others.
Hopefully yes. But why gamble on having to contact customer service of any company when you can reduce the risk.
What is the use of pcie4? And the reason I put b550 is, as you’ve said, it enables the ability to go to a 4xxx chip later... As I want to be able to future proof a bit. However if that idea would actually be redundant in say, 3 years? That is when I may upgrade parts. As newer/better chips etc over and above the 4xxx would be out, or not? Sticking with B450 could be the cost saver if that is the case. I’ll stick 16gb ram in. Will be looking for a copy of Win10 Pro too. Don't know if they'll transfer my copy over once I change all that and can't be chancing it really. Shame as it was free from the win7 upgrade.
Double the bandwidth compared to pcie 3. However when it comes to consumer hardware nothing ordinary really needs that kind of bandwidth. Pcie 4 SSDs can take advantage of it in benchmark headline numbers... but in reality things like a better SSD controller or better latency will give you the bigger performance benefit, so even in that scenario pcie 4 kind of goes to waste. In much less words: For 2020 consumers pcie 4 is pretty much useless. As for future proofing, the Zen 3 chips coming later this year are probably going to be the last ones that can work with any old mobo. CPUs launching 2021 and after will likely make the switch from DDR4 to DDR5, complete with new sockets etc.
Defo go for B450 then. Seems a waste going for a B550 if I’m not going to utilise the CPU upgrade in time. Was perusing CCL and they do a bundle with the Asus Strix b450-f and Ryzen 3600 + ram (HyperX 3200 16gb) for £100 under budget. Which seems pretty good.
