The job search is going not well.

I met up with an old colleague at the weekend for lunch, who's got connections. I told him about a job opening that'd come up at company we used to work at; he told me that a friend had said that within an hour over 20 people had applied - this is NOT an unskilled job, to put it lightly. This included people who'd been made redundant in other countries.

The mass redundancy across the UK is real, folks :sigh: .

When your PC says "Don't leave me here!" and looks like it's had a kidney removed. So you feel bad and throw more money at it.

Yesterday the girlfriend's mum was rushed to hospital with severe headaches and vomiting.

Turns out the tumours have grown quite a bit since the last scan (About a week ago). Her dad hasn't said much, but he didn't get home until twenty to ten last night. One of the lady's doctor friends said although he doesn't have access to her charts etc, that kind of behaviour is not usually a good sign and suggested that, perhaps, she ought to shuffle her holiday up.

    Eugh. This is rather unfun.

Try ignoring Married At First Sight Australia.

My OH tortures me with that regularly.

They still had a TV show? I can (proudly) say I've not watched a single second of what I can only imagine is mindless drivel.

Plenty of shite you can studiously ignore on the idiot box, so you can fill that gap.

My wife won't watch any of that shite, or soaps. I'm really lucky.

So much yes. And, luckily, my fiancée ignores TV almost entirely as well.

The listing photos (some of them anyway):

    The actual item received...

The cuts in the power cable are down to the actual copper - no way in hell is that fit for anything except the bin. None of that was damage in transit. Damage in transit would more than likely have just caused dents, not scratches, and anything stronger would damage the packaging (the packaging was undamaged). No, this **** happened before it was sent.

I know it's a risk buying second hand laptops on eBay - Macbooks especially - but I wasn't expecting anything like that... Case already opened with eBay...

Apparently the seller reckons this happened during shipping... Yeah right mate...

This is where eBay/PayPal buyer protection comes in very handy.

Does make you wonder how he or she thought they might get away with it?

That the one where they pair up and marry strangers and you get to watch as they discover how much they hate each other?

Nope, never heard of it. Thank god my wife doesn't watch that one. All the ****ing time.

If I had to guess, I'd say the scam was against the courier. Accidentally break laptop; list on FleaBay as fully working with faked/old images; sell laptop; send broken laptop to buyer; buyer complains, is refunded; claim on postal insurance as damaged in transit, use fake/old imagery as proof it was intact when you shipped it.

Et voila: £0 broken laptop becomes £500 (or whatever) in compo.

    It's her one (TV) flaw.

I suffer it because i've managed to steer her onto things like the Mandalorian that she enjoys.

Thankfully she doesn't watch any other trash.

How likely is that, if the buyer doesn't show pics of severely damaged packaging? IME, the seller will try to claim the buyer is trying to pass off a dead identical model as the one that was sent, in the hope that feebay will take the seller's side. A losing gambit, BTW - ebay never seems to side with the seller - I sold a motherboard and the buy sent back a wrecked version of the same board.

Hey, I never said it would work!
Not in this case, it seems: the seller has already claimed it was damaged in transit.
