    This. Could. Be. Awesome.

Then again they could stuff it up.

Edit: Yup, I think i've got all bases covered there.

So, if my M&A maths is right, MS now own Bethesda, Obsidian and inXile...

Nothing like a huge corporate consolidation for a Monday.

MS are IMHO the most consumer friendly of the console/games studios, so this could actually be a good thing. Game Pass is going to get huge...

'Its the year 2046, MS has just bought Valve, using Steam as part of Games Pass, only a handful of games studios aren't under that banner. No one buys games any more...'

Personally i'd like MS to generate a bit of cash with remakes of FO3 and FONV and make a FONV2 while you're at it.

    Obsidian can do these now.

Haha! Skyrim is following the footsteps of DOOM, which now runs on a pregnancy test (which sorta makes sense).

    On the flip side...

Nintendo: Assorted Marios, all free of microtransactions.
Sony: HZD, God of War, Spiderman, all free of microtransactions.
MS: Gears of War and Forza, both full of microtransactions.

    On the flip-flip side...

Nintendo: Online membership costs £3.49 a month, gets you some old NES and SNES games in an emulator.
Sony: Online membership costs £6.99 a month, gets you two "free" games a month.
Microsoft: Online membership costs £10.99 a month, gets you over 100 games for your Xbox, for your Windows PC, and now for your Android mobile device too, and the promise that future Microsoft-owned franchises will be added to the list, plus some EA games, plus Bethesda games now...

Okay, Microsoft's is the most expensive (though if you just want online play without the "free" games that's £6.99 a month, same as Sony) - but I'd find it hard to argue it ain't value for money. My kids love Game Pass.

Yeah, being forced into Game Pass (I had Gold, it was expiring, and Gold being discontinued made no sense to try and get another year via codes or what have you) has made me like it. Although I suppose it could be stockholm syndrome. It costs less than it'd cost to play the games I've played thus far, but I'm still not a fan of the subscription system, though, and will likely keep buying physical copies of games that I want rather than the ones I'm just piddling around with via Game pass.

When looking at the real games like Enter the Gungeon, Downwell, Dragon Quest, Dead Cells, Metro 2033, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Subnautica, The Outer Worlds etc yes it is good value.

The concern is however that in the future more and more games will follow the free to play economy of stuff like Gears5 or the absurdo price DLC model of Cities Skylines despite being behind a subscription.

Is it just me or does ZeniMax sound like some sort of anti-constipation medication?

Even if they did, you're still getting more for your money than Sony's two games a month or Nintendo's "hey, remember Donkey Kong? Eh? Eh?"

Though it is annoying that non-Microsoft things disappear. I'd downloaded something that looks interesting when I got my Xbone, but never got around to playing it. By the time I had a spare hour, a couple of months later, it was still taking up hard drive space but had lost the "Game Pass" flash and told me to put my hand in my pocket.

Does anyone pay monthly subs though?

I paid £14/year for Nintendo and £30/year for Sony, vs what looks to be £100/year for gamepass it's not quite the same comparison - still great value, but doesn't make the other two offerings look quite so embarrassing.

Sony's monthly cost in particular I've always thought was totally off in comparison to their own annual rack rates, nevermind the cost of codes.
