I’m finally fed up with dropping screws with my non-magnetic driver. It works well, but really difficult to work on those hard to reach places due to inability to reach in. Any recommendation on a good magnetic screwdriver? What about those magnetiser? Are they worth getting instead? I see LTT uses some sort of ratchet screwdriver, it can still hold screw on its tip. Worth getting? Which one would you recommend?
I have the Wera star demagnetiser, it works like magic. One swipe and you have a strongly magnetic tip, another and it's flat dead like it's not even made of metal. Less than a fiver.
So those magnetiser works. Do you need to swipe every time you start to do a build? Or do they keep the magnetism for a few weeks? I have a single one that works well. I’m thinking those magnetiser are the easiest for me.
I was amazed at how well it works. They'll stay magnetic permanently, then swipe and it's gone again. I should have got one years ago.
My Dad has one many years ago. It’s really strong and I can imagine it doing the job. Unfortunately he can no longer find it. Thanks all. I’ll just buy a magnetiser, simplest and cheapest solution. Fiver, perfect. https://smile.amazon.co.uk/Wera-050...etiser&qid=1601197642&sr=8-1-fkmr0&th=1&psc=1
This is my super fancy pants mag: Dragging the screwdriver along that groove between the two mags will demagnetise it really quickly - literally a few wipes. Dragging across the pads magnetises just as fast.
It arrived late yesterday and I moved the NVMe drive with heatsink under the graphics card to see whether the cheapo heatsink is any improvement over mobo heatspreader. It wasn't. So I moved it back. Magnetism is strongest imminently after swipes, unsurprisingly. Could pick up 2 screws sometimes. An hour later, it's not as strong but still does the job holding 1 screw to easily screw in. Repeated de-magnetise and re-magetise feels like magic. The screwdriver need to be good quality. The crappy tiny one came with M2 heatsink works somewhat, only just manages to hold one tiny M2 screw.
