    Ooh, we're getting closer:

    upload_2020-10-22_9-23-55.png

Not that I'll have much time to play with it for a while... and I still haven't bought any hard drives to put in it!

    EDIT:
It's here! Weighs a bloody tonne, too. Starting to worry about how big the external PSU is now...

It'll have to wait, though, because I'll need to photograph it once it's unpacked and before I cover it in fingerprints and dust.

Squadrons on Epic store. Had a £10 off coupon, so got it for a bargain £24.99.

£330s worth of hard drives. Ouch.

(No picture, you know what hard drives look like.)

A 6TB Seagate Ironwolf, and a 6TB WD Red Plus (CMR, not SMR like the same-size Red) - for the new Kobol NAS. There'll be a third drive going in as the local backup destination, but that'll be the 6TB that's already in the MicroServer - I'll swap it across once the new NAS is stress-tested and then retire the old server.

Got to admit, I'm a bit nervous about moving away from ECC RAM...

As my other half complained my keyboard was too loud, some 65g and 78g Zilents, krytrox lube and new stabilisers from Zeal PC.

    Gah, the bloody thing's flatpack!

    upload_2020-10-24_10-42-36.png

Apparently I need a Philips #2, scissors, and "some patience." Well, that's me screwed, then.

Just bought a RAM upgrade with 32GB Dominator Platinum and some more SSD storage with two WD Black SN750 2TB drives. Now I can have my whole system on SSD and use my HDD only for backups.

Built. Not massively thrilled with a couple of design choices - those sleds are *very* tight, to the point of shaving some plastic off when you insert them, and the top row of screw holes were chipped and rusted. Yes, rusted: the specs say the case is "aluminium and metal" so I'm guessing the rusted parts are "metal", which may go some way to explain why it weighs so flamin' much.

240GB M.2 SATA for the OS, two 6TB drives in bays 2 and 4 for a Btrfs mirror. Leave bays 5 and 3 free for future expansion, with bay 1 disabled 'cos of the M.2 drive.

Only processed a couple of the photos so far:

Wiring harness! (Which, I won't lie, was pretty satisfying to do.)

Ah, I was kinda expecting a SATA backplane PCB but anything other than a dedicated board would still need the ports wired, so it makes sense. I would probably wire it so the disabled bay was no.3 - just to try and even out the airflow across the drives but that's just the hopeless pedantic in me. :geek:

It does look very neat though.

    Looking forward to the review.

That's basically what this is, just minus the "P" and "B". It's still hot swap - just fit a drive to the sleds and push it into the rails and slide it home. Not as convenient as a trayless system, as you have to screw the drives to the sleds, but takes up less room.

Could be, as it turns out I'm such a ditz I ordered the wrong one anyway. I between various work things I had a bunch of tabs open with jackets, two of which were North Face, and I ordered the wrong one.

    Issue rectified now anyway.

Unpurchased: Aforementioned North Face Summit L5 Futurelight
Purchased: North Face Triclimate Down Lined in Black Heather

Christmas present malarkey for the lady, because in a turn of events that surprises me beyond measure, I got more than eight minutes notice of what she might like.

    Septicflesh - Codex Omega
Dimmu Borgir - Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia
Dimmu Borgir - In Sorte Diaboli
    Clawfinger - Use Your Brain
    Clawfinger - Deaf Dumb Blind
    Cavalera Conspiracy - Inflikted
Murderdolls - Women and Children Last
    Arch Enemy - Khaos Legions

Right angle adapters for the ATX power header, and the GPU power sockets. Because even though the cables aren't like a bag of multicoloured spaghetti, their over bearing presence is quite irksome.

Edit: Nothing named is actually for her. She has less than zero interest in any of those bands. But she does occasionally peruse, so I probably shouldn't state what she's getting.

Not strictly a purchase - backed on kickstarter. Another Aluminium case.... I think I have a problem.

@Goatee, the Doctor will see you now... My consulting room on SFFN is still open.
What is that case? Not on my radar /ssffail

Still hanging out for the DAN C4, but the T1 is looking more appealing by the week....

I may end up selling my T1 and / or my Mjolnir (when it arrives) along with a corsair SF450........

However, that case is the Winter 1.

    Its a bit bigger than the T1 (15.5L vs 9.5l) but I'm pretty sure I can fit 4 x 240mm radiators in it. :D
