I don't know what caused the delay, but I know it wasn't, "Should I add louvers, or not ?"

Cheers guys TYVM for the continued support :thumb:

It's good because you might have heard it before :) Command & Conquer  The one and only game i ever wanted to really do a case mod for...... and ended up doing Supreme Commander instead......one of life's little jokes!

Actually .........its been me bungling through different styles of side vents..... Just couldnt get my head around what i wanted.

Case modding is a warts and all confession...... here's some warts :p

There was a few even more half ass attempts but these got a bit further.

The styles were ok..kinda...... just needed to fill the whole panel
    [IMG]

I did manage to get some filler work done and cut a clear window insert..... i also picked up a sheet of tinted plex to cut up over xmas :)

And one last update till the weekend.

Again a massive thanks to James and the team @ MWAVE for coming along on this journey having their support has really made the difference :thumb:

I think the extra size and colour will really POP with the over all look inside the case

I missed how you access the back mounting screws. Awkward finger-fiddle?

:duh: Oh, right. The 4 corner screws are to hold the frame together. I'm not getting soft in the head at all.

    NO Your right :thumb:
The front 2 screw caps will be as before. The rear magnets offer less than the structural support that the 2 screw on caps offered. But that's ok, these vented sides are just for show and once the case is just sitting on my desktop it's more than enuf :)

Managed to sneak out to the workshop for an hr or 2 today while everyone was inside doing the xmas thing :D

The orig plan was to hard glue the vents to the inside of the vent.... but this was going to make painting and future changes/upgrades a pain.

So i decided to remake a set for the 3rd time...... this time in a "Cartridge" form. That way i can just paint and socket them into place. This would also make the process of clear and tinted window changes easy too.

The whole assembly is strong enuf to just be slotted into place press fitting against the inside of the vent and the window and the be secured.

The excess over hang will get trimmed but i'm still not 100% if i want them to angle in / or out \

The shortest one you see being the reference.

Removing the paper of the test clear panel im still deciding if i should cut a hole to make them a vented or just leave them as dummy vents.

A quick ruff trim of the backs for a look.

That's a lot of double-sided tape for a test fit. :worried:
    Looks sexy as hell, though.

Got a few extra days off for Xmas :D So decided to throw these into the mix

Some themed speakers to match the case mod. (Hyper Speakers?)

I'm no sound engineer but i know the sound i like ... and that's loud and deep :) Not much for treble a touch of mids and lotsa boom boom.

That's a hard thing to get on a desktop with out having to use a sub.... and i'm not keen to do that.... just yet.

Ive been playing around with the Swan BS3 Drivers for a while now and really like them, A 30 Watt Full range that work pretty well without the need for X-Over work.

SO Loud is not prob since i'll run 2 x Swan drivers in each cab but getting them to go deep would be a bit of trial and error.

As cool as the clear looks these wont stay that way i have plans for these so maybe another clear set for the wifey :)

Anyways after a couple of fails and ruff mock ups i ended up with this.

Allowing the Speaker to sit back like this puts the drivers out of phase. So a Custom stand will be used.

I'll prolly end up making a few types of stands :)

The texta mark is where the port will sit.....

The Ports is hard glued in and the Drivers added.

Being narrow i really have to place them just right...but after a lotta listening and tweaking they are loud and they really do go deep :D

IKR :D This is really a blast ! Combining my tru love of speaker building with my fav material this to me is modding heaven :) So much so ive started a second set for the missus with a DAC AMP transplant combo and even started the MKII version of these.

On the MK2's ive decided to remove the wave damper in the rear of the cabs, i feel from a tuning stand point i could get better results from just adding fluff.

Anyways After starting again i'm one down and one to go !

The MK2's are getting thicker tapered bases some sexy Starsky & Hutch side striping a thicker back and a magnetic front panel.

Ive decided to go with the spring type clips these look cleaner and are way easier to use. Adding the second layer to the back allow me to recess the unit.

Speakers in again for a test of the new front panel.

The back is a bit wobbly but its function over form and you wont see it.

Once on it's a clean look and all you will see are those sexy 3" drivers and bottom port.

Last but not least before paint is the custom stand mounts.

For this i broke out my special stash of white 20mm thick plex

The stand mounts and speaker bases are keyed to stop the units sliding off.

These are done for now :)

The next thing to do is get some gunmetal grey onto them so i'll hold off till i'm finished the new case sides.

The next thing to do will be the dac/amp combo unit to match the speakers.

Acrylic is stiff enough for speaker enclosures? I guess I've seen bandpass enclosures that use acrylic for a window, but I'd assume that was pretty thick. Won't have issues w/ resonance?

    Cheers JR :thumb:

Cheers mate tyvm :thumb: you know it was really tempting (and still is) :winking: But i just wanted them to sound good before anything else. So that's still a huge bet before they get some paint :)

These things are like bricks.... there's 3kg weight in each speaker :jawdrop: i'd imagine the only reason you wouldn't use plex is the higher cost over cheaper materials.

The sides are 6mm braced plex with a 10mm thick front baffle the rear and base are both 12mm thick and chuck on a 8mm front panel.... you barley feel any thing thru them under a full speaker load.
