This is no doubt a silly question but have we closed the borders?

Have we at least decided to do more than greet visitors with a "Hello, welcome. You don't need to have a covid test but be a good sport and isolate for 14 days will you? Thanks very much"

    Erm.....

Dude - he's only just worked out about the schools. One "months-too-late-step-at-a-time", please.
I asked that question waaaaay back in the thread and think I was told it was too late or similar.

In Australia, they make you pay to stay in a designated quarantine hotel. Admittedly, the security guys are also sleeping with you, so it's not all bad.

Oh I know mate, this question was asked back in March.

    It's a frickin shambles.

I was hoping they may have accidentally fallen into making a good decision before it's too late but, again, they failed on both counts.

Wait, hang on, they're actually finally thinking about at least having a test requirement?!?!!?

Wonder if it'll apply to business travelers.

    It's a start. Finally.

Early reports that the virus has left the country after Boris renamed 'tier 4' as 'lockdown'. It worked guyz!

So the decision has been made to shut down businesses and schools and put healthy people in house arrest and solitary confinement again? As if people weren't traumatized enough already.

It's a New Year with the institutionalized new normal from last year, or something.

Why? Neither one of us closed the borders during the war on "terror" either, just wouldn't make much sense.

    Edit.
Perhaps the war is still ongoing? I mean we're still getting molested at the airport, but I'm digressing.

Why? You trolling? Because it worked in NZ, for example, and checking who has covid and quarantining effectively helps stop the spread - as seen in some other countries.

Hard, fast and early. It's not hindsight, it was a choice.

We've bumbled along with half assed lockdowns, implememted slowly and always too late - that's what's been dragging them out and making them far less effective.

We lucked out as our school had an inset day :)

EDIT: now just got to figure out whether to send the youngest to nursery, or not and suck up the fees :(

Daughter's university had decided to not consider opening until the end of January at the earliest, I guess they'll push it back further now.

The irony of leaving the EU so we can control our borders while not controlling our borders when it really matters.

Yes, yes they are. Whether they are intentionally being disingenuous or not at this point is irrelevant, because the outcome is exactly the same. Just skip over @walle's posts and move on.

Sorry, when I say "you" I mean the UK. Effectively the vote for Brexit was a vote for the breakup of the Union.
