I was a big Sega fan at the time so there's a whole load of bias going on but this was the greatest PC case ever. I'd still have one now. TeraDrive by veato posted 14 Apr 2021 at 10:36
Nice! Anyone remember Voodoo PC? Iirc they had some interesting cases back in the day. They were like a lesser known Alienware.
I did a little case mod on the tower version of these many moons ago, they were really nice cases, designed by Richard Sapper, back when industrial design of PCs was a thing! It kept me going for eons that did, with some mATX loveliness in there, I only replaced it a couple of years ago in fact: Before: After: The main work was inside, most of the guts had to be ripped out to fit modern mATX board, PSU; the thing was thick steel, all riveted together, so lots of drilling and re-riveting with a donor case.
I've got a weird fondness for the Amstrad CPC 6128: http://www.computinghistory.org.uk/det/2666/Amstrad-CPC-6128/
My first ever PC (but really used for just games) was a CPC 464. It was second hand when I got it so was terrible versus my friends with NES/SNES but damn didn't I play the hell out of Chucky Egg, Bubble Bobble and Harrier Attack.
The Esc key on my Filco is from a sadly deceased Amstrad CPC 464. Turns out the keycaps use a Cherry MX-like cross mounting, which is just slightly too small for a modern Cherry MX switch. Few minutes with a file and it fits perfect-like.
We had one of them (or at least one very similar) growing up - think it's still lying around at my 'rents place somewhere... alongside the Vectrex...
Really must double check if my Dad still has the Amstrad in the loft somewhere. Suspect it was flogged on Ebay a number of years back by my brother during a clear out but I'm not certain.
The Dell Dimension 4500 - Mostly because of the "Beefy Computer" memories from playing CS: Source. This one was BTX form factor, so it would be its own project to get modern hardware into it. The Micron Millennia was a big case with a nice appearance. The HP Blackbird was unique It's little brother, the Firebird took the concept and made it SFF The Maingear Shift from a few years back was similar to the Silverstone Raven or Fortress FT02, but was larger and nicer in a few notable ways. The Voodoo Omen was a beast and had insane build quality. I'm not sure we'll see something this nice ever again. The Alienware Aurora ALX had vent fins that moved, but didn't help cool it any better, haha. I still loved the lean-back design and the gimmicky fins.
Wedge cases need to make a comeback! Seriously, those two Atari STs on the other side of the office easily have enough room in the case to fit an ITX system in there... Oh be still my beating heart.... <3
My first "real" PC was this: Commodore-PC1 by Xir posted 19 May 2021 at 10:04 But my favorite "tower" that I never achieved is a Silicon Graphics Octane Octane by Xir posted 19 May 2021 at 10:04
I only saw this the other week after @jinq-sea was talking about it, but the Sharp X68000 is really cool The compact version looks like a playstation
