Aaand another house missed, 15% over the estimated value wasn't enough apparently. Need so much extra cash at the moment to make up the difference at the moment in Scotland. Although then again the houses are much cheaper to begin with so not going to complain too much!

Whereabouts in Scotland are you looking to buy? The market in general here is pretty hot right now and some places are just crazy.

Glasgow +20 miles on rightmove basically. Yeah and the mortgage being based on home report value vs final selling price is severely limiting what I can offer as I don't have somewhere to sell to also take advantage of the market :D

Suddenly need the amount of cash I'd be expecting to need if I was aiming to buy a house twice the value!

Bloody DPD somehow got my home and work address confused (I double checked the order and I definitely specified home), so now I won't be able to go through with my plan of munching on luxury Belgium chocolate whilst watching films and playing computer games today, like the fat git I am.

Ah well, not exactly something to write to the UN about I suppose.

Here in Wales, house prices are also through the roof.
What makes it worse is that people aren't even looking at the houses first, just putting in high offers before the stamp duty "holiday" ends.

I'd actually have no problem paying the prices the couple I've missed went for, just the difference between the amount of mortgage you can get for them vs what they go for is so big. One last week went for over 120 whilst being valued at 100, so needing an extra 20+ cash on top of any deposit.

Funny I was worried what I might be able to get mortgage wise with only a single income, turns out it's the last of my worries!

I dumped 17 litres of DERV into it and now it seems fine. Dunno if it's a faulty fuel gauge, transfer pump or filter assembly, but for now the plan is to keep at least ¼ tank in it and see how it goes.

Terminating 100 ends of Cat6 to make patch cables for the work network. All cables between 11 and 14cm....

What a thankless task this is and Cat6 is horrible to work with! lol

Weird - pretty much a year to the day I was in the same predicament. Allow yourself a day or two off to enjoy freedom! Hopefully you'll look back on this period as a nice little break you had between jobs.

yeah, even if i get a job asap i'm gonna give myself a week "off". i mean when I say off, it'll probably just be 100% childcare with even less time for me than when i was working...

Pro tip: WSUS needs to be explicitly set to download win 10 feature updates from version 1909 onward. The previous IT guy did not know that, so guess who needs to scramble getting the few in-office, but mostly WFH users back onto a supported release ASAP? Me. yay :(
