And to put things into perspective, a message from my dad to say he had to go to hospital last night with heart palpitations. He's ok now but has some tablets to take for a bit and needs to lay off the caffeine. I am not ready to lose him.

Solicitor: "We've applied to be on your lender's panel, now please pay us £300 on account."
Me: "Err... how's about I do that when you're on the panel?"
Solicitor, a week later: "We don't know when we'll be able to join the panel, you should find a different solicitor."
Me: "And that's why I didn't send you the £300."

Furrfu. Bit of luck, tho': the very first solicitor I called after that is already on the panel. Handy!

Having gone from 10 cups of coffee a day to 0 from one day to the next back in the day.... why don't you just shu----- No, you're right. It was rather easy in highsight. I detected the slight sarcasm in your comment right on time.

No sarcasm intended. It is easy to get acceptable decaf coffee and tea these days. I only drink coffee and tea with caffeine through the morning until lunchtime each day, after I drink decaf tea. Other wise I have trouble sleeping. This is the decaf tea I drink: https://www.milesteaandcoffee.com/products/69-black-tea/547-1kg-decaffeinated-loose-leaf-tea Easily the best I have tried.

Miles' Tea is the best. We drink Smugglers' Gold. It's ace.

    Man.

I've had a really close friend in the USA for 18 years. We've been through a lot together over the years, including my first divorce, and he has had plenty of crap luck.

In 2007 his step father built their dream home. He lived there with his mother, step father and his sister Allie and after a run of bad luck all seemed to be going well. Then in 2009 his step father went in for a routine heart op and developed shingles and died.

They lost the house as it was foreclosed and have been through the worst crap. Mostly because his step dad put a lot on strap and at risk, but they also had to go from pillar to post.

His mother aged considerably in recent years and finally bought a condo in Rehoboth DE by the shore. It looked like things were going well for the first time in years.

Then a month ago she had a short fall and hurt her back. She went to hospital after a few days and it turned out she had broken her back.

Which would all be awful enough. Two days before this happened my friend's girlfriend dumped him over something utterly trivial.

And then yesterday we found out why her back broke so apparently easily.

Bone cancer. There is no cure and 5 yrs is the best you get if diagnosed early. I fear it's late in the day.

Man. We always joked about being in the s**t luck club but bloody hell :(

Thing is I know him. Very well. We lived together for 6 months. And I'm scared because I know how much he adores his mum and what it will do to him if and when something happens to her.

    :(

Same, used to drink a cup an hour on the hour during the working week, then worked out why I felt like crap during the weekend when I didn't partake.
Now only drink coffee when commuting, which of late means a whole 2 cups a weeks, 1 there and one back.

I was drinking 6 espressos a day, the last one usually after dinner. I've reduced it to 3 or 4, the last one usually after lunch. The only exception would be when going out for dinner.

I only drink a strong coffee first thing. I worry that my sleep will be affected if I have anything later than that, and God knows my brain doesn't need yet another excuse to keep me awake at night.

Two coffees in the morning is more than enough for me.

Tea on the other hand is like air, it comes from being weened on the stuff.

@The_Crapman Hope your dad just has this blip and is soon on the mend.

Yeh he's "ok", thanks. He's really active so hopefully just a slight lifestyle change is required.

    Fingers crossed mate.

I mean it's going to wake you up like a cold shower but hopefully with a few tweaks in behaviour he can consign this all to just being a memory.
