D'you remember when we had small phones and big tablets? Then we had big phones inbetwix 'em, and called 'em "phablets"?

Now we just have big phones and a small number of even bigger tablets. Sad times.

I still remember The Reg regularly calling tablets "fondleslabs" (although that's not strictly a portmanteau).

C*ntard is pleasingly offensive, and is often deployed when describing some of my more irritating stakeholders.

I had a Dell Streak 5 about 12 years ago. Everyone thought I was insane carrying a "phablet" around, with a whopping 5" screen. I preferred "trendsetter", but it took a few years for everyone else to come around!

Wow, was 5” really phablet territory? I’m not sure there’s a single general purpose smartphone available today that’s 5”…
I do still have a 3.2” HTC Magic and in spite of seeming very normal at the time, it really is comically small today.

“Jackwagon” is a personal favourite of mine, but now on checking I’m not sure it’s technically a portmanteau.

Also TIL, “Velcro” is a portmanteau of velours crochet (velvet hook).

It was when we didn't have razor-thin bezels or curved wrap-around displays. I had a Dell Streak 5 once, and that was considered a monster for its time.

    One I learned today and I wish I hadn't.

    Vabbing.

Vaginal dabbing, using lady juices as perfume. :eyebrow:

Yeah I learned about this recently, and... just... Well, whatever floats your boat. It's probably harmless, so if it makes you feel better then go for it...

Or, you know, crack open a can of tuna for a more or less authentic fragrance, if there isn't an amenable vag handy.
