Quote from BBC News Live (12:25):

    1. The Polish president has said there is no sign that the missile that hit Polish territory late on Tuesday was part of an intentional attack
    2. President Duda says it's "very likely" that a missile explosion was caused by Ukrainian air defences
    3. The Nato chief Jens Stoltenberg, who is holding a press conference, also says the incident in Poland was "likely" caused by the activity of Ukraine's air defence systems

I had it down as a sign of poor quality troops with old unmaintained kit rather than a deliberate action.
Ukraine knocking missiles off course is an unfortunate accident, unfortunately it also give Russia a new tactic.

It’s probably the only ‘off-ramp’ Putin has left. He (thinks) he gets to save face by apportioning blame on mercs.

Mercs who effectively function as a special forces arm of the Russian military.

Remove “effectively” and you’re wholly correct.

There is an assumption that failure to supply is a deliberate action and not that Russia simply doesn't have sufficient ammunition stocks.

Cup of polonium, fall from window or walk into stray hallway bullet? What will it be for Prighoprick? Place your bets below...

Kind of a shame that he failed to get rid of Putin first though.

Quiet exile for a few years then the old duffer will fall down some stairs and suffer a fatal head injury. Can't do it too quickly, people will notice.

For all it's been maligned, the reality of facing the Russian Air Force when you yourself have no airforce and no NATO funded air defence system is not a pretty one. Still it's been a pretty bad day for Mr Putin. I wonder/dread what he intends to do to plug the no doubt large gap in his force once the Wagners who don't wanto stay have melted away across international borders, it will surely be a lot of them.

It's impossible to know what will happen next but, a lot of rich and powerful Russians appear to want Putin out. Yevgeny Prigozhin's actions, could just be the precursor to something more serious.

Mikhail Kasyanov, former Russian PM under Putin, speaking to the BBC about Putin: "this is "the beginning of the end... he's in very big trouble right now.""
