That's alot of money... I hope that with the shrinking process, GPU's can become affordable again

It's a niche product with in a niche. You've got to need to have a truly tiny htpc case (most of these cases will take a pretty big gpu), want amazing performance and have very deep pockets. Oh and you've got to not want HDMI 2 either (or hope you can get a decent display port -> hdmi 2 adapter). Still pretty cool if that's you.

you also seemingly can't use CrossFire (unless they allow it through the PCI-E bus...)

HDMI is legacy and old tech in the way that PCI slots are legacy and old tech

DP is the way forward and my TV has DP ports.

You would think so, yet nearly 8 years on, it's still virtually non-existent on low-mid range monitors.

Are you assuming this because it doesn't have a bridge connector or have you heard it about the Nano?
Since 290X Crossfire hasn't required an external bridge.

DP has struggled to really become the big player in the TV sector, Mostly due to the lack of its need. If you buy a modern 4k set you will have DP on it. But on most 1080p setups its just not a option in the lower priced options. If your not buying a branded tv LG / Samsung ect then your likely not going to have display port in your tv.

HDMI is still the dominant connection standard. And will remain so in the tv sector till 4k gains large scale popularity. And the basic facts are that could take a decent lengh of time. In the uk we do not even have a 4k tv channel yet.

    who buys low end?

as for TV - a lot now have DP as that's the way forward - if you don't invest then whats the point - go to Tesco and get a £199 job if that's all you want....

Most of the market is low-mid range panels. The cynic/tinfoilhat in me would say that the panel manufactures are deliberately omitting displayport to sell more panels when vga+dvi support is eventually dropped.

More TVs are coming with Display Port but it is still quite rare in AV receivers, sound bars etc. My Yamaha has HDMI 2.0 but no DP.

HDMI is standard for home entertainment (TV's, Bluray, AV boxes, etc), HDMI 2 is the 4k standard. Display port is the PC monitor standard and will never become accepted for home entertainment (issues with content protection, cable lengths, backwards compatibility) - basically hollywood and AV makers had to pick something and they've picked HDMI 2. If you want a PC card for HTPC's and 4K it needs to output HDMI 2.

Sky & BT have UltraHD stations, have since the start of the month - although im not sure whats required to access it, if its another +£10 sub things, or another box installation. Is there some pedantry involved in 4K & UHD im unaware of, cos every time theres been a football match on, both Sky & BT have been very keen to remind the viewer its also available on their UHD station too.
