Hey guys, My mom is having a terrible time with her current HP computer. It is slow to boot and even slower when trying to run applications. I'd like to come up with a price to give her to build her a solid system that will perform well for her in running her applications. She is a teacher so Microsoft Office is a big part of her day. As well as various programs to do grades, reports, ect. She also does a little picture and video editing, but nothing major. I am really thinking I can build her something in the $500-$600 range that is going to outperform just about anything she can buy from Best Buy for twice the cost out of the water. The only problem is, I really don't know where to start as most of the places I read are high end stuff. Here is kind of what I am thinking, if you could give me some ideas on where to start my research I would be greatly appreciative. Intel Platform with integrated graphics Solid Processor to be OC'd to 3GHz or more 4 GB of memory DVD burner drive 3.5 Floppy drive (uses it at school for grades) 250+ GB Hard Drive Vista or XP 64bit Power Supply that is efficient and quiet. Modular not necessary. Case doesn't need to be anything fancy. Plain Jane would be just fine. Thanks in advance for any input!
I'd be looking at an E5200 or E7200 processor. You'll get better GB per $ with larger hard disks. I'd be looking to at least 320GB, or even 500GB. Vista64 is the way to go, XP64 has terrible driver support. Corsair VX450 or CX400 would run this nicely. Also, HX520 would be modular, but you said it's not necessary. Just my two cents.
Are you looking in the US, or Euro? I'll see if I can throw a setup together for you based on that. I assume US, as you said $500-$600, but please confirm.
pick up a antec sonata or antec sonata 550 plus e5200 anything with a G45 chipset.....think they may be G41's, go intel m/b for stability though i'd save the cash n pick up a asus or gigabyte
Well hello from across the Mississippi! Alright, right in your price range, good quality parts (no cheap Dell crap here), and should work wonderfully. The newegg item code is included for each of the items, so just search for the item code and you'll pull up the item. From there, just add it to card, and repeat. As a side note, Windows is more expensive than half of the components... :X
