I'd recommend you think long and hard about getting a gaming laptop or not.
Since getting mine I've been wishing had a PC. My reasoning in getting one was I move around alot and didn't want the baggage of a PC as don't own a car or for when I move overseas. Shipping a PC costs a small fortune!

From my 2yrs experience of 17inch brute of a gaming laptop I'd advise not to get one. Rather invest in a SFF Gaming PC if you want easy portablity for LAN's. Shuttle even does a nice bag to carry your RIG and Monitor.

But if your set on the idea of owning a gaming laptop.....
Alienware: avoid like the plague, overpriced piece of plastic
Dell XPS: avoid like the flu, overpriced over featured LED rich piece of plastic (check out the second hand market though as can bag a bargain)
Toshiba: no comment, never realised they had a gaming laptop, though looks again overpriced but end of the day i'd never buy Toshiba
Sager: better value and if I only had 4 notebooks to choose from the 1 i'd get for sure, the clevo chassis' are brill, my laptop if Evesham Voyager DC720 which is a clevo

If I was to get another 17inch gaming laptop I'd definately get a Clevo. Would shop around to find a Clevo white book. IMO you money is wasted on SLI.
Get a Clevo 17inch chassis, 9800gtx, have the res lower at 1440x900 for longevity, 4GB of mem, definatelily get a 7200RPM H/D and get a mid range cpu. QX's are overpriced, its the GPU thats important. I say go for the lower native res as a year ago or more I was fine for gaming on 1920x1200 but now new games barely playable which would be ok on 1440x900. Do the above and your laptop should come in around 1200-1600.(not looked into prices on this for an age). You can use the change to build a descent gaming pc.

Do note that you WILL want to invest in an external monitor and keyboard. Gaming on a laptop without then sucks bigtime.

p.s. Dell XPS 1530 and 1330 are awesome laptops but not for high end gaming.

Sager, definitely. If only for the gfx cards that're in it. Avoid Alienware as their customer service can be appalling.
Dell 2nd hand if you can get the spec. Toshiba aren't bad but the Sager seems better for similar price.

Well looks like the Sager is the better choice, should I go for the Quad core or should I perhaps rather go with the E8500 as I dont see the use of paying $100 more for the E8600.

thanks for the replies so far.

P.S. what do you guys think of Rock Laptops ? I think they are a bit over priced.

So no more advise ? :waah:

Please guys help me out, I dont want to waste money on the top end stuff when I can get similar performace from a less expensive laptop.

It's only for gaming so I dont need all of the fancy stuff, maybe watching a movie now and then on it, but I dont need a finger print reader or webcam, although a webcam can be usefull sometimes.

Thanks for the responses so far.

there are other good laptop brands out there like MSI and Asus with their g50 series. the prices seemed ok. if your going to be gaming only, then i would use half of that suggested money to get a desktop pc which is more powerful and upgradable depending on how you build/buy it.

i built a pc (with some bit-tech advice ) for about 550 pounds excluding a monitor and it can run crysis on high with a solid frame rate. considering the fact that most of your choices are over 2000 pounds, you can buy a "normal" laptop for about 1000 pounds then use whats left o build/buy a desktop.
    just my advice

To go with what you asked, I'd say grab a dual core. Most games at the moment don't make any noticable use of quadcore, use the change to buy a nice laptop bag or something.
