How do you know what the prices will be and what will be available by the time a 920 needs a upgrade? There should be a whole range of chips and prices available at that stage. It's also a safe bet that the better performance will be on the 1366 platform too.
Point taken, although that is only going to happen if Intel cease production of the Nehalem LAG1366 CPU's totally. I have seen no definitive information that this is going to happen, on the contrary, if that roadmap is to be believed, i7 9xx CPU's are still going to be produced for the next 12 months, and longer....
Hello all Well its not the power supply.. Been and got a new Corsair 750w from Novatech.. So thought it'd be that. Now working my way through this: http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx...&model=Maximus+Formula&page=1&SLanguage=en-us i get no blue lights under the ram when it tries to post/fire up my GPU. i do briefly when i shut i off.. is this normal?? wishing it wasn't bank hols tomorrow so i can ring Scan & sort it.. ??
You have the gpu in the top pci-e lane yes? Also check with your mobo manual that you have the ram in the right slots.
its in the Blue lane at the top.. and the ram is in the orange slots as stated in manual.. running out of ideas..
You're right. But I wouldn't expect to see another i9 chip for another year or so. When Intel releases Sandy Bridge, they will probably release a few new i9 chips and drop them down into the performance segments, and the i5s will go into the mainstream segment.
Has the machine ever booted into windows? If not check the cmos jumpers are on the correct pins and not set to clear cmos.
i5's are aimed at being 'mainstream' from release. i7 9xx (LGA1366) and i7 8xx (LGA1156) will occupy the performance sector.
nope never has.. board will fire up - just no GPU working/signal to my monitor i've read all the ASUS Form board and seen to of tried everything. My graphics card doesn't fire up.. it never has on the ASUS - but now running it on my old setup i thought it was my psu.. on my Biostar board i use 3 power connections 4pin(middle board - not used not one of these on ASUS) 24pin & 8 pin 2x 6 into my GPU looked at the new Custom PC Doctors section and the say if no signal its the memory.. not sure it just does fire up.. it is sitting all ok in the slot - re sat a few times..
Try running it with just one ram stick in the first orange slot. Swap them around and find out what one is faulty. If nothing it may be a dead board.
you wouldn't beleive the combo i've tried with the Ram as the last message form Fazed... about blue lights.. not getting them.. should be.
To get back on the i5 vs. i7 920, I won a i5 750 (2.66 GHz) + Asus P7P55D at the Asus event and currently own a i7 920. As we (BT winners) are not under NDA I'll be able to compare the two !
you have tried my suggestions of using only a single ram stick and checking the cmos jumper yes? Try a cmos clear too. Before recommending a RMA on the board please take some pictures of the inside of the case show all the connections on the motherboard etc and post them here and we will see if there is anything obvious wrong.
I think he's pretty much troubleshooted all he can, with the spare components he's got. We did the RAM switching last night and cleared CMOS. Oatey, you should definately have the RAM Blue LED illuminated. One last thing to try.....you mentioned you dug up an old GFX card, have you tried posting with just the CPU and Old GFX installed with any RAM? You should get POST Error Beeps for having no RAM installed. I'm not sure if you'd get a Visual POST with just CPU and GFX...never done it. As I've said before, If 1. your GTX260 works in another rig, but not in the P6T Deluxe 2. Your other GFX won't work in the P6T Deluxe either. 3. You Mobo will not give any post error beeps, when there should do. (No CPU, GFX or RAM) Points toward a knackered mobo. Could be RAM, but you need another stick of DDR3 to rule that out. I'm sure it's the Mobo. I don't know what else to suggest, you've done it all already.
seemed to of tried every combo going.. that sounds great and a good idea.. will have to reset it up & take some.. took it out my case when i was having issues so it will be on box will post later & thanks
Go for a i7 to be honest, also its going to be come confusing soon, there is gonna be a i7 with the new chipset.. as the mid - high range model from what im told
