I have a very old 99' dell p3 with 640mb of ram I want to install ubuntu but I put int he disk and boot it wont I went in bios changed it to boot cd drive first it just doesnt want to install any ideas? the disk works I just tested it
not burned disk both work too the xp is a legit xp copy and the ubuntu copy is one they sent me *shrug*
Does the CD drive work? its getting on a bit wouldn't be surprised if parts if it had started to fail.
nope cd drive works great this is really pissing me off im going to slap another drive in just incase though
new cd drive new disk I tried a xp disk a win2k disk a xubuntu disk and a ubuntu disk not working someone told me they had this problem and they wiped the hardrive and it installed but I dont want to wipe off the old os if I cant install anything else!
yeah I have I tried disabling the hardrive in the bios didnt work I think the only way to fix it is to wipe the hardrive or get a new hardrive which I need so I will wait till I can get a bigger hardrive then ill put linux on it
if disabling the hdd in bios didn't fix it, a new hard drive won't fix it either. is the cd drive the master of it's channel?
