Can you post a link to the LED product page, so we can see if it has an internal resistor? There are many different things that are called "5v LEDs", but they are not all the same.

You HAVE to have a resistor with a LED. Period.

(well, there are some conditions, like a crrent limited power supply, but i digress)

ALso, leds with internal resistors are quite uncommon. i would be suprised if ratshack carried them.

OK, it seems like RadioShack don't sell any LED labelled as "5v". Also, the ones they do sell are a bloody rip-off. It's probibly better to just go with a standard LED and the 100Ω resistor you have.

Here is the mouse I modded som time ago:

    Fan and LED's

Finding the right fan was the hardest part, as well as making sure it wouldn't hit the mouse frame when closed. Oh, and the fact that the PS/2 port has a lot of signals at 5V so finding the actual +5V was a bit tricky..

Back LEDs makes it seem it's got booster rockets or something :p
I got lucky, my friend has 3 5v fans he doesn't use. Now all I gotta do is wait for them to come all the way from Spain :sigh:
