HUmm. I was around for the decline of the comdex shows, in 2001-2003 in the last 2 years it was painful to see, after the bubble burst half the exibitors cancled and the show went from 5 halls in 2 centers to 2 halls in 1 expo center. I didnt get that impression from E3. It seems to me that E3 was a good PR generator, as there was great coverage of it online, and even the main stream media covered it to a point.

A down sized event will not survive, and I think the big boys may be trying to play hard ball (i hope). If its gone... it was a good run

Judging by the increasing amount of press coverage over the last couple of years, I would have said that E3 provided plenty of PR coverage for those involved.
The reason it didn't work for Sony is that they made a complete balls up of their PR.
The reason Microsoft didn't get loads of press coverage is that they didn't really have anything to announce, and the most newsworthy stuff from their stand was their gloating over Sony.
Both were totally overshadowed by Nintendo and Wii.
Sour grapes? "We didn't win, so we're not going to play anymore"?

As an aside, I think it's time bit invested in some new stock images - I'm not entirely sure what E3 has to do with a rubber crab and rubber duck (unless in some way they're meant to represent Microsoft and Sony?)

This is like stock market... The big boys are thinking about quiting, so half other companies decide 'if they're doing it, we'll too'

    NOT ENOUGH PRESS COVERAGE?!

    WTF?!

Every videogame magazine and videogame site worth two craps covers e3, along with plenty of other sites. This really is the stupidist move ever. Without coverage of the newest systems and games in a public setting, Sony and Microsoft are going to be in a world of hurt. I had very little faith in Microsoft, with their only two impressive games on the Xbox 360 (Saints Row, and Halo 3) and with Sony's once epic system falling appart in flight to the store shelves. (Now the only way I'd buy a PS3 is if they remade Final Fantasy 7.) So when the NEXT generation of systems come around again, if Sony still exists, they're giong to have a long hard fight to beat Nintendo. (Microsoft will not die so easily, not with the billions and billions of dollars it makes, but they will most certainly be strugging for a new console for years to come.)

And so back to the orginal point:

    WTF?!

    Official Save E3 Petition

The folks at thehardcoregamer.com have started an online petition to Save E3 2007. The people most negatively affected by this decision are the independent video game journalists and the gamers themselves who will eventually purchase the products. Cancelling E3 will essentially silence the voice of the independent video game journalist. View and http://www.thehardcoregamer.com/Home/tabid/36/EntryID/117/Default.aspx online.

Stand up for something or you'll lay down for anything.

May Not Work, But Worth a Shot

Will the petition change the decision of the ESA or the exhibitors who have beacked out? Probably not. Hopefully, what it may do is show those people just how many gamer voices are out there and that we should be treated with equal respect and given equal opportunities. After all, we are the ones who open our pockets to buy the games in the first place.
