Ooooohhhh, that's going to make things interesting. I do think that Nvidia should let AMD have its moment of glory with the 480 - if they're not careful they'll not have a competitor!

At $300 for the Founder's Edition with an MSRP of $249 it's more expensive. Not only that, who can remember the MSRP for the 1080?

No cards have been sold at that MSRP and they are now climbing toward the £700 mark. So much for the MSRP, then.

I predict the same with the 1060 so AMD have absolutely nothing to worry about.

At least it's better than the stillborn 960 was, doesn't compete with the 480 at launch but nvidia marketing will take care of it. Hopefully it's still usable by the time it's refreshed, unlike the 960.

This looks promising. I'm looking forward to seeing some performance comparisons in both VR and on a monitor if possible.

When I get around to building the new Mini-ITX machine (waiting for Kaby) I am also upgrading my monitors to 1440 so I am looking forward to the reviews but I have a doubt it will be good enough for what I want... good enough for now but on the limit and future games will likely stress it too far So I may just have to wait or stump up for the 1070... We'll see but I am not paying close to £500 for a GPU.

That's more down to supply: newly released cards are priced high when demand is high and supply is low. Prices will drop to MSRP when supply becomes available.

plenty of supply available , prices world wide are creeping up on NV cards.

this will kill all remaining sales of GTX 9xx series - etailers will hate it as they still carry a lot of stock of 9xx cards which are not selling

I'm in the same boat, still on a gtx 660, which lasted well on my old 1680*1050 monitor, but certainly doesn't cut it on my new 1440p@60 monitor.

The 1070 has the power for maxing everything out and probably lasting a nice long time, but the price is enormous right now with the lack of availability.

The RX 480 looks like it would be playable for just now but have little to no spare headroom. (and relatively high heat/noise/power consumption to boot!)

The 1060 is probably going to also be a bit underpowered to last, but if it can top the 480 by a noticeable margin while offering lower heat/noise/power consumption at a reasonable price it might be worth considering.

This doesn't seem to be happening this time around. I expected the 1070 to take the same price point as the 970 was for ages (around £280) and the 970 to come crashing down. Suppose the price of the 970 has come down a bit to £220.

NVidia's new strategy means that if the 1060 is a little bit quicker than the 970 they'll release in uk for £240 and leave the rest of the prices the same, hope I'm wrong though and we'll see the 970 at £180 at end of the month :)

I wonder if they fixed the DP issue with the Vive on this. As for price, 970 price for 980 performance. No one seems interested in moving price/perf too much do they, I suppose it's also partly the fault of the weak £ though. :sigh:

A more than ten percent drop in the value of Sterling may be skewing prices against us even more than usual, just maybe.

It's certainly killed off my upgrade plans for the year.

The prices you see in dollars are the cost of the product in USD to distribution and vendor.
Not to channel resellers. Add on VAT and a smidge margin over all channels and you end up with an RRP. As such $249 becomes $320ish which is about £240-260inc VAT where gap defines availability.

    Go figure...

Founders 1080s were $699... Do the same maths and you get founders 1080s at £650+ in most places except the odd few who had bulk delivered pre brexit.

Americans don't pay $699.. They have tax returns to do as well and tax isn't zero % over there so they end up paying $700and something depending on rate. If there rate was 20% they would be paying $840+ just like us and getting to a cost of at today's rate... Yup you guessed it! Circa £650...

that's with a very recent price drop - also notice how many are actually lower than the MSRP for the `reference` edition , and are the so called cheaper MSRP for the custom cards....

Obviously it will have a price to match but I am glad that the likes of ASUS are giving the 1060 the full cooler treatment as they will be releasing a version that seems to have the same 3-fan cooler with AURA as the 1070 and 1080.
