Ok, so with the end-plates all drilled I could finally do a mock-up of the frame. Not all of the 80/20 was tapped, nor did I have enough bolts (estimate about 50 cap-head machine screws total = $$) to bolt everything up - so some parts are held together with some drill bits. So, minus the rails and ballscrews, here is what the lower frame will look like: For size reference, this is 26in from plate-to-plate. More updates soon!
Thanks! There will be updates on the ROV too - come spring/early-summer. I will be using the CNC Machine to make some parts to add thrusters to it.
Here are some pictures of the awesome enclosure that I bought for all the electronics and power supply:
I suppose if I had a welder I could have made it myself - but when I got it made for me for a fantastic price - why bother. Plus, it is customer made for my electronics and PSU components.
Ok, back to the frame... Tapping the 80/20 Extrusions: The frame, not mocked up - actually bolted together: Frame with MDF spoil-board (not yet cut to size):
Yeh, It's all comming together, Not to long and we'll be seeing the produce from this machine, Well I hope so.
Since I wasn't happy with my Dual-Transformer design for my PSU I decided to go another route. A friend was kind enough to send me a toroid transformer (what I should have used from the start!). Check it out: This is going to make the PSU design so much less complicated...
Since I am now using the Toroid, I decided to update the diagram for those playing along at home. Revision 3 (Hopefully Final!): Click for full-size diagram!
how much amp draw do you expect from the motors? what is the precision level you expect to attain? love the project, awesome work, inpiration for my cnc project
The servos are rated for 3A each under load. I hope to get .010" accuracy or better. Because I am using unsupported rails (although not too long) I will lose a little bit of accuracy (they can flex). However, it will be more than enough for what I am planning on using it for. Plus, down the road I may swap out the rails with higher-end Linear Rails (like I have for the Z-Axis).
I have some personal projects that will demand some serious machine time, but yes - I will be very open to doing custom work for others. Hey, I gotta offset the cost of this thing somehow! Some more big updates coming soon!
