I think you should paint the PSU as well.

Now THAT'S a good idea. When something doesn't look quite right, sometimes accenting it works better than trying to hide it.

Eeh, don't think it would be that good. But it's always a try worth.

    Update 23 – HDD Part 1 @ Thursday the 10th April 2007.

    Intro
Eh, not much time, so as soon I get some more time I’ll mod the harddisk. I want to cut NLM in the hdd cover, and mount some plexi on it. But we don’t want dust in the harddisk right? So I constructed this “hdd dismount boks” inspired from the spiderman case. In the next update there’ll be some actually modding, just hang on :)

    The funny part

This it the harddisk, a 80gb Maxtor disk.

We’ll need a box, the only one I could find was this one.

    My legoooo :D

    Now the case’s ready.

    Okay, here’s the top.

Then I cutted some plexi, I want to see what I’m doing :D

    Some marking-up.

Some compass-sawing, and I got this nice hole :)

I need to fill this, I want absolutely NO dust into the case.

    That’s good.

Then back to the case. I need to mount some gloves.

    Drilling the holes :)

Looks good! Cant wait to use it :D

The silicone’s now dry, and It hold the plexi perfect.

    And the finished case.

Let me hear what you think. Another update should be ready next week. Cheers.

Tbh that is not gonna work :) Unfortunately... I have yet heard of none modified modern HDDs that would work properly after the mod.

Good job if it works, but I wouldn't do that.

@ derbaum ... so when i make hdd top of plexi i must make a little hole to normalize pressure (something with dust protec ).
In professional data resource the whole room is "clean room".
Hmmm strange whole my life i think in hdd is underpresure ;/

Having never done this, I'm totally talking theory here. But if the pressure relief hole is removed by what you do, adding your own would be a good idea. I bet, though, that the factory one is not just a hole, but has a membrane in there to let the pressure equalize, but not let air actually move back and forth. Shouldn't be too hard to make something like that yourself.

But first, of course, see where it is on the drive. It may be somewhere where you can leave it intact.

On the other hand, unless you expect to be taking it to extreme temperatures or extreme elevation changes, it may not matter. I'd probably put one in there just for safety, though.

    Ok a knew everything.
In hdd must be little underpresure, becouse when hdd work air inside get hot and (takes more place) . When somebody wants to open hdd he must make perfect clean area with jonizated air.

Just a hint: do it in your bathroom. First turn on the hot water and let the steam fill your bathroom. Then let the steam go away and then do the window in your harddisk. The steam will catch any dust inside the room so you can open the harddisk safely. I've seen someone successfully doing this just recently with a 120gb disk. Here's the topic in dutch.

i believe Feldman has done 2 windowed HDDs in his Spiderman 3 mod, they both work, i remember he sprayed the inside of his little assembly with a mist of water to get any dust to settle

    Don't mod your hardisk

no don't mod your harddisk this window-in-harddisk mods always go wrong
you need a clean room to mod a hard disk. A clean room is not a plastic box that was wiped with a towel before. An Industrial cleanroom uses special filters to make sure that only 100,000 dust-particles per m³ would be in the air (an normal room might have somethin around 35,000,000 particles per m³).That you don't see any dust does not make sure that there aren't enough microparticles in the air to damage the read/write head of your harddisk. So just don't do it and leave your harddisk in one pice :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash:

    Update 24 – Feets Part 1 - Design @ Friday the 18th April 2007.

    Intro
Ey guys! Finally I’ll have some spare time! In this weekend I’ll make the feets! I’ve also been modding on my harddrive, I just want to have everything in the next hdd update (including testing and mounting) so you’ll have to wait a little. Buuut, in the next update I’ll properly bring you a little teaser ;)

Oh back to the feets, I did some sketchup (sorry it’s my first attempt, hope the irl letters will be a little more round :D)
I have to do 2, one in the front and one in the back. But you’ll see later!

    The funny part

The is one of the sides. You can read on the picture, what the holes in top are for.

And here again, just so you can see the letters a little more easy.

This is the other side, as you can see it’s similar to the other side, so you’ll be able to read NLM from both sides :D

The two black parts will be done in 5-8mm alu (don’t know yet, have to check out the workshop) They are separated by a 5mm thick frosted piece of acryl. It gives a totally thickness on 15-20, and that’s perfect ;) They’ll be about 16-18cm long (don’t know yet, I cant remember the size of the bottom eh)
The plexi will light up, and there be light IN the letters, bet that effect is going to be awesome.

I’ll start on the feets tomorrow, right now I have some English homework to do. Cya later guys :)
