Sometimes when I leave a comment on a website I'll get a reply and the person replying precedes my name with the '@' symbol. I'm not familiar with this shorthand, does anyone know what it stands for? Thanks Nick
It serves as a request to marry your daughter, if you reply back with @(whoever), then it means you accept
Aside from daughter marriage requests/acceptace, it is also used by people too lazy to write "at". Or "to", for that matter.
I assume it means that the comment is directed only at you. They could leave a generic message and then put "@[yourname]" to say something directly to you or relating to your question.
it just means that they are replying to you. the shorthand has been around forever, but its usage has increased a lot since twitter started using it as an official reply-to syntax.
