I have a problem with my brother's pc. we had a power cut and when the he started the pc nothing happened the power button just blinks yellow.
it seems like PSU won't start, but indicator on the mobo is lighting up when I connect the power, but that's it

is it the PSU or mobo that the problem?

is there any way of cheking the PSU? I read somewhere that if connect the green and grey wire the fan on the PSU will start.

    I appriciat all help.

onhook the ATX connector from the mobo. Bridge the green wire to the brown wire directly to the left of it. Plug the power supply into the wall and turn it on. If the power supply comes on then it is OK.

    I hope that helps

If you do that to a spare PSU you can use it to hook up lights and fans around your room. lol

Even if the PSU does start, it's no guarantee that it works properly.

Oh, and pretty much the best method is a paperclip, stick it in the plugs on the ATX connector (bottom side, the one normally facing the mobo). :)

If you get a amber flashing light on the power button of a dell, It does indicate that there is a problem with the Power supply unit

I tried connecting the green and the black wire as thacrudd said, but it's still dead.
so now I have to buy a new PSU or can I repair it in anyway?

it's no problem if it takes a little expertice/hard work to repair, I'll handle it.

    Hi Guys,

It might be worth giving Dell a call if it is still under warrenty as they should replace it for free. Worth a try

    Well, read your signature :p

I think it will be hard to find and wiring diagram. Even if you do find it, switch mode PSUs are hopeless to work with.

By best recommendation would be to just bin it, and get a new PSU.
